Very plausible. And don’t forget Hunter has been getting away with outrageous criminal behavior for at least twenty or thirty years. Why would he think any ‘little person’ like a computer repairman could entrap him?
To do this on purpose would require way too much forethought on Hunter’s part. Plus he could not be sure that the data would be found.
Once I got the Laptop to boot up and I saw a bunch of files and directories on the hard drive, I would say OK, stop there, call the guy and have him pick it up. This guy knew who dropped it off, the 90 days had expired, so it was his now, heard the Hunter stories of Burisma, and thought what the heck, let’s poke around and see what is on here.
I forgot about the discovery motions from the stripper law suit, so yes repair shop might be a great place to stash the machines, and water damage is destruction of evidence.
Let’s say that Hunter knowingly and willingly engages in a certain level of sick stuff with certain ages of kids, but there is a line he won’t cross.
He could have been photographed doing sicker things with younger kids and not have known it because he was drugged using something like Rufies (sp.?). But he’s blackmailed.
Let’s say he blames Dad for this and he knows that Dad has knowingly and willingly engaged in sicker things with younger kids, maybe even Hunter’s own kids.
His anger at all of this is greater than his sense of self preservation.
He wants to burn it all down but doesn’t have the guts to call someone like a Guilani up to say “I’ve got something for you that you will find really interesting.”
So he leaves it up to fate. He leaves the laptop and figures whether or not the laptop finds it way to no one or to someone it was what fate (or his twisted idea of God) wanted to have happen.
I believe the computer repair guy tried to get Hunter to pick up the machines and pay the bill (!), but Hunter ducked the phone calls.
That is one reason I think the “hiding financial information” from the stripper’s lawsuit is a plausible explanation for the series of events.
If Hunter had picked up the machine, then he would have had to turn it over to the plaintiff’s attorney.
That would have been f*&^ing crazy—the stripper’s attorney would have been blackmailing Hunter _forever_ and without mercy.
Interesting theory Rush. Not quite convinced.
He brought in three laptops. Left with two that day.
Third one was kept for more work - which contained the drive.
One was unrepairable. One would work with a new keyboard.
Hunter left that day with 2 of the 3 he brought in.
The third was left at the repair facility.

That could be the reason Hunter couldn't meet the 90-day window.

Giuliani announced during an appearance on Newsmax on Tuesday evening that he had handed the hard drive over to the Delaware State Police over the images of minors. He also shared a text message exchange between Hunter and what he believes to be his father.

I’ve considered the possibility that Hunter had an unconscious compulsion to undermine his father, or even a conscious compulsion to undermine his father.
It’s too speculative and too hot a topic for the smart people on tv to discuss.
He missed rhe March 1 deadline to submit financial info to the court.
He was calling around to various repair shops...he was so stoned he forgot where he left it.
Nah. “I’ll leave this boxful of evidence with a stranger in hopes the contents will be published” is way too, um, specifically vague. Getting too stoned to use a computer, and dropping it off for repair, only to forget doing so - compensating for the lost computer by just getting a new computer (he’s rich, remember) and resuming from iCloud-saved content - is orders of magnitude more likely.
Someone as smart/rich/connected/conniving as Hunter would come up with something more decisive & reliable to do in whoever he decided to.
The Magic Letter seemed to imply that a couple of weeks ago, but I find it hard to believe that is really so unless he has really flipped, which I doubt.
He is a barely functional addict who has been bailed out of whatever by the wealth and power of his family for far too long.
The usual thing to do with a computer that has been left like that is just to wipe it clean and resell it somewhere.
