As far as female soccer players... Okay Mia Hamm is not unattractive (was married to Nomar Garciaparra, I don't know if that is still so). And Hope Solo is very attractive. Although apparently a nut job. But what exactly is Bird complaining about. WNBA versus women's soccer, both audiences are microscopic.

The reason the Team USA Soccer women are so popular has little or nothing to do with their looks or skin color. They’re so popular because they’re winners, and as General Patton said, Americans love a winner and they despise losers. Reminds me of a sports radio report in NYC radio on a “shock jock” show some years ago. I almost drove off the road I was laughing so hard. The guy was describing a Sports Illustrated cover story about Venus and Serena Williams, and he said they should have been on the cover of National Geographic instead.
I’ve been officiating high school and club volleyball for 40 years. The discussion is over. At the high levels of play, the women are easily the most attractive of any sport. The moms of the better teams also tend to be pretty hot, too. I have decided it will be time to quit when the grandmothers start looking good.
