Why would you say nothing is permanent

Because we are in a constant state of change due to entropy. The more correct way is to say nothing stays in the state permanently.

Einstein: Wonder if it was worth leaving the Post Office

Patent Office. Give him at least that much credit. No stamp-licker, he.

Atmospheric pressure is due to gravity. 14.2 pounds is the weight of a one square inch column of air extending from sea level to outer space. PV = nRT, granted, but gravity is force that constrains V. It is the container.

True enough, but isn’t the quantum field permanent, even if it fluctuates?

“The entire physical universe is merely an illusion. Nothing has any meaning except that which you give it.”

And if you are an illusion as well, then whose illusion is it?

Kewl story. The story was when Teller and Szilard were trying to find Einstein to get him to sign the famous letter to Roosevelt, alerting him to the possibility of a nuclear weapon, they didn’t know his exact address only his neighborhood. They drove to the neighborhood, and asked a small boy hoping he could at least give them a general idea. The boy knew exactly where Einstein lived, as did “everyone” in the neighborhood. People generally tried to protect Einstein from curiosity seekers, so a small boy was the right one to ask.

I’m pretty sure I’m real, but I think that the rest of you are just here for my entertainment, so, dance little monkeys, dance!

Huh? Didn’t know that I was famous - me was the small boy, but then people were always stopping me as I walked along the side of the road or rode my bile uphill toward town. In those days there was no car traffic to speak of and most people who lived in P’ton knew everyone’s car and waved - it was only out-of-towners that asked about him or the Institute.

There were only maybe 3 boys living along Mercer Road at the time - As far as I remember I was the only one riding my bike or walking along the road pretty much every day.

"A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it." -- Max Planck, Scientific Autobiography and Other Papers
"As a man who has devoted his whole life to the most clearheaded science, to the study of matter, I can tell you as a result of my research about the atoms this much: There is no matter as such! All matter originates and exists only by virtue of a force which brings the particles of an atom to vibration and holds this most minute solar system of the atom together...We must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent Mind. This Mind is the matrix of all matter." -- Max Planck

... Nature abhors a vacuum.

I find that saying amusing considering the vast majority of the Universe is a vacuum. Our tiny world of heat ,light and substance is the exception.

... Nature abhors a vacuum.>>>>>>>>>>>

Yes, well the context is not the universe, its the Earth, according to Newtonian era physics.

Its also one of many reasons its difficult to achieve sustained nuclear fission within the Earth’s environment.

That must be developed on a space staion lab where there is neither gravity or lack of vacuum. With sustained nuclear fission, the human race will advance well beyond its present state. We should be pouring billions into the research every year.

Nature abhors a vaccuum on Earth. (That’s why Linda Lovelace became famous.)
