UVMRH WGFKW IREM APKKW;
YMMCKM GQMW IREM
GQKD APWIMW. JIPQMWM LVGEMVC
The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, youll be solving them all within a few days. If youre stumped, take a break and return to it.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for todays Cryptogram ASK THE GROUP FOR HELP!
I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hals Helper below.
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.
One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please dont put the actual words of the quote in the clue.
Solution to our last puzzle. Simply scroll your cursor over the text while left clicking your mouse, and the words should appear.
IN RECOGNIZING THE HUMANITY OF OUR FELLOW BEINGS, WE PAY OURSELVES THE HIGHEST TRIBUTE. THURGOOD MARSHALL
Challenging cryptogram from The Arkansas Gazette.
10 minutes good
5 minutes excellent
2 minutes idiot savant
This one was a challenge. The repeated word IREM, and last name of the author helped. If you get the repeated word, you should be able to get the first word.
This one stumped me.Took me over 10.
Tough one. After a few minutes struggle, focused on KK in APKKW. Fell into place after that.
Two common ending letters....
Difficult to get started. In the end, common letter plus some wild guesses did it.
I saw the APKKW and my first guess was correct, but I discounted it because that word rarely appears in that form.
The last name of the author should have been a giveaway. Not that I caught it until I was on my way.
Author’s last name. Led to first name. Finally.
6 min.
Most common letter.
The trick is to realize with that, the word after the semicolon really is a word. There aren’t many with that letter pattern, but once you get it, it really helps.
The author isn't a person!
Schazam!!!
Got it? I think? Doesn’t make much sense but....
Sure had me in a pickle - guess it still does....
“Tough one. After a few minutes struggle, focused on KK in APKKW. Fell into place after that.”
That is what I did, but it still took awhile. I usually do these while eating breakfast. I had to set it aside and come back to it later.
Word 5 turned out to be what I guessed, The author last name just sort of appeared and away it went.
I finally got it!
