You hit the nail on the head. It was obvious that Kamala's prep consisted of memorizing catch phrases and talking points with no underlying understanding of the issues at hand.
She probably actually believes she never said she would ban fracking. At the time, she was just regurgitating what she thought her audience wanted to hear and never gave it a second thought. She probably couldn't even explain what fracking actually is.

My wife was watching with me and she was turned off immediately by her shrill, hectoring "nails-on-chalkboard" speaking style and her constant head-shaking facial grimaces as Pence spoke. I see that type of comment a lot in this thread.
Pence was calm, cool, collected and disciplined throughout. He let Kamala ramble on and then he'd counter with a well reasoned response. He killed her with politeness and decorum. My only beef with Pence was that he talked a little too slowly so was constantly running out of time to get his full points across.
Now the Trump campaign needs to drive this point home. Hard.

The Drudge site poll was purposely confusing. For the question on who did better, you have Kamala up top and Pence on the bottom. Then when you voted, the positions flip-flopped and showed Pence’s numbers on top and Kamala’s on the bottom. So it was easy to think that Kamala was winning the poll if you weren’t paying careful attention.

I wished he wouldn’t have taken up valuable time thanking people all the time before he answered a question. He talks way to slow and that eats up time. So many opportunities to say more especially about death rate of COVID. CDC said only 6% of people died from COVID. He never GOT THAT MESSAGE OUT THERE.
