Eddie Trunk wrote that Van Halen was America's Led Zeppelin. That's debatable, but back in the 1980s they were a white-hot live act - Romeo Delight was the perfect opener.

I caught them back then...Yea, Dave's act gets tiresome real fast, Michael Anthony's bass and Alex's drums aren't epic (though Michael Anthony's backing vox is), but Eddie reinvented the guitar and he made it look easy. RIP.

Who had "Eddie Van Halen, Charlie Daniels, and Neil Pearl pass away" on their 2020 WTF Bingo Card?

The 80s were awesome in so many ways.

Also, I agree Michael Anthony's back vocals are epic.. His octave/pitch really rounded out the songs as though the band had a chorus behind them.

Van Hagar wasn't as epic, but who the hell was the recording engineer?? Those albums sound so 'tinny'!!! Van Halen I sound is full-bodied, awesome tracks!

Not a huge fan of Sammy as front man (for Van Halen) but if anyone cares to see a killer live concert of Van Hagar, check this out!:

SAMMY HAS SOME SERIOUS SWAGGER!:

Van Halen - Dallas Free show 1991

Rest in Peace, Eddie.

I was at this very concert. There was about 350,000 people there. Van Halen was the headliner. Me and my buddy were right up front with two girls when Roth came onstage drunk. I was about 50 feet away from him when I was heckling him. He responded with a rude comment that made my day.

A modern-day warrior
Mean, mean stride
Today’s Tom Sawyer
Mean, mean pride

Though his mind is not for rent
Don’t put him down as arrogant
His reserve, a quiet defense
Riding out the day’s events
The river

What you say about his company
Is what you say about society
Catch the mist
Catch the myth
Catch the mystery
Catch the drift

The world is, the world is
Love and life are deep
Maybe as his skies are wide

I can’t even BEGIN to tell you how much of my life was spent with Van Halen as the background music. ;)

I LOVED Eddie. I LOVE Dave. So glad I got to live in the same world at the same time with both of them. *HEART*

The LYRICS were awesome - but why did they have a CHIPMUNK singing lead vocals? ;)

Geddy Lee is a unique singer.

I like the low and slow ballads he sings.

Apparently he falls into this category:

If so, then so did Mr. Bennington of Linkin Park.

I remember that free show. I worked in downtown Dallas at the time. The West End was packed.

My boys were big Linkin Park fans.

They did like Van Halen as well, you know, when I MADE them listen to ‘Oldies,’ LOL!

Yes - curse you autocorrect!!

The global autocorrect dictionary should turn all instances of "pearl" into Peart.

Running With The Devil is one of the all time classic rock songs.
As soon as you hear the intro you want to adjust the volume up.
The first song on the first album and every song on that album is great.
