The White House has blocked new Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines that would have likely prevented a vaccine from being approved before next months presidential election, the New York Times and the Associated Press reported, citing Trump administration officials.
The FDA had proposed stricter guidelines for the emergency approval and release of a coronavirus vaccine.
One such requirement involved following vaccine trial candidates for two months to ensure there were no side effects and that the vaccines provided lasting protection from the virus.
FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn has previously said that scientists, not politicians, will decide whether the vaccines work and are safe.

They’ve had months anyway. All the Phase 1 clinical trials for any of the frontrunner vaccine candidates finished several months ago. Phase 2 was largely complete by mid to late summer. Phase 3 has been going on for 3+ months for some of the candidates.
Tens of thousands of closely monitored volunteers are receiving the vaccines. If the FDA wants to suddenly change all the rules and further extend that, right now isn’t the time to make such a change.
I smell that damn Fauxi.....
The White House has blocked new Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines....
The article says new guidelines.
I repeat, that's NEW guidelines.
Meanwhile the headline said STRICT guidelines.
So, putting the two together, we have NEW STRICT guidelines.
So the White House wants to keep in place, existing guidelines, the guidelines that have made Fauci and the FDA happy for many many years.
But now, low and behold, with Trump as president, and the election approaching, the FDA and Fauci now want new strict guidelines that other vaccines never needed, that will slow down the process.
Do I have this correct?
Yup. These are new rules. We are being scammed by the fauci.
That pins it down.
Yup... Trump is wrong on this completely. And if it ends of leading to serious health issues(or death) for those who take it then Trump will be finished.
And why do we need a vaccine anyways. Trump beat this in 3 days. And even at best this vaccine is going to be less effective than a flu shot.
Also many people don’t know it, but the normal lead time for a vaccine approval is something like 10-15 Years. And there is good reason for that.
Pretty sure Fauci just said we could have one before November. I’ll find a link.
Huh? He wants it to be approved earlier, and they’re trying to hold it back, just as they did with the treatments that he received.
I presume these vaccines have been pretty much available in the can already, but never could demonstrate safety or efficacy without the crazy Operation Warp Speed.
You’re talking about the FDA. But without Operation Warp Speed, they’d never see the light of day IMO.
People get sick from flu shots. But the reality is, there isnt much of an alternative to shut up the Karens or reduce the restrictions, which keep tons of people out of work.
These are not even traditional flu shots. These one mess with your building blocks of life. They permanently alter your biology.
The FDA has stalled every step of the way, but even when certain treatments were permitted (meaning standard, could be used without special permission, etc.) some governors forbade their use.
In a couple of cases, IIRC, the governors were sued and had to back down and permit these treatments.
So I think that if anybody’s parent or relative died in the states that forbade the treatment that Trump got, the relatives should get out there and sue the socks off the state and local officials that did this.
You’re confusing things.
The vaccine approval process has been radically sped up with Operation Warp Speed. That is very different than discouraging cheap and safe therapeutics so as to help push expensive, patented products of sometimes dubious value.
The FDA and CDC together have done both.
Folks who cite on every article citing some unnamed “officials” might also consider wising up...
I hardly recognize FR these days...so many concern trolls and other Tokyo Roses and non-donators that it’s hard to find the Conservative support aspect some days.
No, I was talking about treatments, not the vaccine (if any).
Trump used a treatment that the FDA could approve generally but refuses to do so for the usual phony reasons (not tested enough, not proven, etc.). His access to it came through his physician, and because it is not FDA approved, it had to be provided through the Right To Try process, which gives patients the right to try an unapproved therapy. I think he had to sign a waiver to try it, or some such thing.
The thing that really impresses me is how the government authorities not only fail to look for treatments but actively block access to them. Remember when the governor of New Mexico (I think it was) actually prohibited doctors from prescribing HCQ in the state? I believe a lawsuit was filed and she had to reverse her order, but that she did it in the first place is pretty stunning.
They want people to continue to be terrified, to think that this is somehow the one disease in the world for which there is no treatment or cure, and that its a death sentence with no hope. They have found that stoking fear is the best way ever for controlling an entire population.
Theyre mad at Trump for telling people to quit being afraid.
