If you could retire w/in the US where would it be a why?
Three drawbacks.
3) Its located inside the state of california. ;-)
I’m considering purchasing a large boat; however, there are absolutely no/none/zero slips available in the Panhandle area. Hurricanes Michael and Sally made them scarce as hen’s teeth. I would contact Eric Davis at Legendary Marine in Panama City Beach. He was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful to me.
Brown County, Indiana - low taxes - decent weather - rural but close enough to IU in Bloomington. Great State Parks - known for the Fall Colors in the Hoosier National Forest. Close to Mike Pence hometown of Columbus, Indiana.
I’m in San Diego,
Every ones Leaving.
Go figure.
A quiet lake area in a solidly red state, preferable one with mild winters.
I get out there a fair amount, and it’s pretty awesome. I dirt bike in Sequim. But the long arm of Olympia is closing in on all of us.
I also lived in the Tri Cities for several years and loved it there. I’d move to E. Washington but I need out of liberal politics. Sadly, the disease of liberalism is even infecting Idaho and Utah.
Agreed; I would never want to live in Nashville proper! (born here; live in Clarksville currently). I wouldn’t want to live in any large city, to be honest. Unfortunately, getting older almost dictates living where there’s at least fairly reasonable access to health care.
Personally, I’m going with a travel trailer and be on the road full-time. If that’s not an option (about 5 years away) then the current plan is southwest Wyoming.
But I bet that housing prices miraculously continue going higher. I have loved visiting San Diego over the years, but the homeless problem and CA liberal govt have ruined the appeal.
Shush...People other than the original poster and we read this forum.
Now you’ve let the cat out of the bag, and the yankees will flock there.
Did you pay attention in USMC intelligence specialist class about revealing secrets? ;>}
anyway, it could become another island secret stash banking entity for the ultra richies.
I live in commie Colorado and should have left a long time ago.
Guess you heard that from the NBA idiot !
No where but Texas.
There are conservative enclaves on the OP
Probably the best weather in the mainland U.S. as well. Sparkling clear days during the summer with mostly low humidity, invigorating crisp days in the fall and while the winters can be a bit chilly (like Alaska), you get used to it quick and spring is always right around the corner.
My suggestion: check out state constitutions and local ordinances. Second, pick a state that will take good care of you if you happen to get sick and broke financiallt. Beautiful Tennessee isn’t one of those places.
Look for a place with similar ideologies as yours so you have a comfortable social life.
Avoid demonrat cities, states, counties unless you love their ideologies.
Look for very reasonable cost of living. Make sure you can still live there if you get sick and financially strapped. It happens you know. You must exhhaust all of your financial resources wich is very easy to do should you or your spouse, become catastrophically ill.
Only you can make the call as to where to retire so choose wisely and logically. You aren’t getting any younger and advancing age brings with it an entirely different set of circumstances.
And is buying a large catmaran to live on an option?
Contact freeper Travis McGee (aka Matt Bracken). He could help if he chooses to.
Count me in if you get a group!!!!
When people say California is expensive, I’m always shocked when I find out what people earn in other states.
Outside of California, you don’t make enough money to live on. How do you do it???
I’ve lived here in Los Angeles over 70 years. I have bought several homes and enjoy a nice life. I don’t know how you guys do it.
Black Hills of South Dakota. No income tax, low population, good people.
