Last month Apple unveiled a redesigned iPad Air with slimmer bezels that it said would become available in October, but it didnt give an exact date for when it would start taking orders. With October now upon us, there are indications that the new iPad Air could launch imminently, rather than later on in the month.
According to a tweet late on Wednesday from well-connected Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, Apple marketing materials for the new iPad Air are starting to land at retail stores, suggesting a launch sooner rather than later.
The new iPad Air is the first Apple device with Touch ID built into the power button. That has allowed Apple to add a fully laminated 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display with True Tone, P3 wide color support, and an anti-reflective coating.
Its also the first time Apple has debuted a new AXX-series chip in an iPad before an iPhone. The new iPad Air is powered by the new 5nm-based, six-core A14 Bionic chip for up to 40 percent faster performance and up to 30 percent faster graphics than the previous-generation iPad Air. Its the same chip expected to be used for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models, which are expected to be announced this month.

Apples iPad Air is also the first iPad to offer unique color options similar to iPhone colors. The iPad Air is available in silver, space gray, rose gold, green, and sky blue.
Like the iPad Pro, the new iPad Air features a USB-C port instead of a Lightning connector, and similarly features a 12-megapixel rear camera for higher-resolution photos and 4K video recording.
The new iPad Air will be available on Apple.com and the Apple Store app in 30 countries and regions when it launches. Wi-Fi models will start at $599, while cellular models will start at $729, with 64GB and 256GB storage capacities available.
Ping!......................
Wow! Slimmer bezels!
Um, what’s a bezel?
Maybe this will lower the price on the older ones now.
Not a chance. They will be called ‘classics’!...................
The outside edge material. I foresee a lot of ‘bent’ iPads....................
iPhones have reached the stage of diminishing returns.
They have essentially been perfected. The only improvements they can make are marginal. A thiner bezel, better camera, sturdier glass or case, but no serious upgrades.
Few would find any substantial difference between a 3 year old iPhone 8 and the the current model. Certainly not enough to cause them to fork out a grand to upgrade.
What’s the first think most people do when they buy an iPad?
Put it in a case.
Yes, so now they’ll have to buy reinforced cases................
I have a dedicated iPad Air that Ive used with an Apple TV to stream in HD to a 47 inch TV for the last 5 years. Get everything you can buy from cable companies...any sport, any team, hbo, showtime etc, movies the same time theyre released to theaters. Buy a good WiFi speaker and use your iPad Air as a music library...outside lounging. I save $150 mo + or $1800 year and 5y is nearly 10k savings. A new updated IPad Air for $6-800, is a bargain.
“Um, whats a bezel?”
It’s a little bit like an aura, Horshack.
I use a Samsung active, which is a “rugged” phone that has thicker glass and a reinforced body—no need for a case.
I get asked: how can you use a phone that is so thick and bulky.
I just look at their “slim, sleek” phone that’s in a protective case that’s literally twice as thick and bulky and shake my head.
I don’t understand the trend of making thinner devices that are so delicate they require a protective case, but that is the trend.
“Wi-Fi models will start at $599...”
Thats a new one. Apple has held this level device at $499 for years. I guess the lesser iPad below it will become the $499 one now?
Who would want an iPad without WiFi?...........................

All iPads have Wi-Fi. Some models also have cellular connectivity in addition to the Wi-Fi.
If you want on or off the Apple/Mac/iOS Ping List, Freepmail me.
It does to a certain extent. . . But even five or six year old Apple products hold their value. However, the lowest priced brand new iPad is just $329.
I certainly do. Im not going to take a chance on breaking such an expensive device. Besides, with a case, they are easier to prop up on a lap or even in bed when reading a novel, watching a movie, or researching.
Typo meaning inversion?
