Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey is extending the order requiring facial coverings in public places until Nov. 8.
The governor announced the extension at a press conference today in Montgomery.
Ivey and State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris issued the mask order effective July 16 as the state saw increasing numbers of coronavirus cases. The order was extended twice, most recently on Aug. 27, and was set to expire Friday. It is now extended through Sunday, Nov. 8.
Ivey mentioned the national election as one reason for extending the order past Nov. 3.
I want everyone to (vote) and to be able to do it safely," she said, adding that Alabamas coronavirus case numbers saw consistent decline after the mask order was instituted.

I dont mean to get into an argument, but I believe that part of the controversy about it was that she and the legislators conspired to raise the taxes, as evidenced by how quickly it was done after the election, but accidentally forgot to mention it to the voters. I dont vote republican to have my taxes raised.
The newly elected Alabama Legislature this week hiked the states gas tax to raise an additional $300 million a year. It took five days, the minimum time it takes to turn legislation into law.

Your recollection is better than mine. No offense taken.
Nope, it’s really not that big of a deal here in Alabama. Lot’s of folks just ignore the whole thing. I ate in a crowded restaurant yesterday. About half the folks had masks until they got to their tables. Every place has their signs up, but few even make an effort to enforce it. Alabama is pretty much a live and let live kind of place. Rural Alabama sure doesn’t care.
Thing is, she’s allegedly Republican, and up until this whole COVID-19 debacle, she’s more or less acted like one. Now she thinks she’s Tom Wolf or something.
I think Gov. MawMaw has a Rat state medical officer. She just dug her political grave.
I don’t follow it anyway, but I hate this stupid mandate.
Possible. I don’t dissect and analyze the political structure of the state from statehouse to local council until something raises my hackles. I just wanna pay my taxes and be left alone.
CASES IS NOT SICK!
Cases means nothing. Stop making policy over NOTHING!
She is an example of why I NEVER, EVER vote for a woman.
To hell with Mamaw Brownwawtah.
Yep.
Well, she’s otherwise been a pretty solid Republican governor. I have to idea who is leading her around by the nose on the COVID thing.
I ain’t going there. That is a way to start some shit in this roadhouse. LOL
She doesn’t care. Not running again.
She was diagnosed with lung cancer last year. I expected she would extend it through the election.
I have noticed that too. I went to get gas and no one had a mask on. I had some but simply forgot. Will see what happens tomorrow when I get my hair done. We have been wearing one there.
Thanks. I did not know she was diagnosed with lung cancer.
“Why are people getting tested if they are not sick?? All it does is allow the totalitarin tyrants to use that info to practice their Tyranny.”
Exactly! This is where Trump is making his biggest mistake, he is running around bragging about how much more testing is being done. It is the equivalent to running around bragging on how much more ball and powder you were able to supply to the British.
Jefferson County here. These people here are completely brainwashed. I had to run into Lowes this morning. Forgot to get my face diaper out of the truck. When I walked in I realized I didn’t have it and said screw it. I was surprised no one said anything, but you would have thought I had ebola. People went out if their way to keep 20 feet away from me.
Jefferson county has gone all militant about the mask. Down here in Gulf Shores, Baldwin County area. Most people are wearing them ,but I have not seen anyone say anything to a person who wasn’t wearing a mask.
