On September 30th, the No Sail order from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) will expire. Will the CDC lift the ban or will another extension be added to a long six months period without cruises.
Since the CDC No Sail Order came into effect in March, many companies have ended up in severe financial trouble. Another extension of the no sail order will surely put some of these companies over the edge of bankruptcy. Of course, the major Cruise Lines did not receive any stimulus packages as many are registered in ports of convenience.
The Cruise Lines are preparing to go back to sailing, and are expecting the CDC to cancel the no sail order. With cruises already operating successfully in Europe, the U.S. cannot stay far behind.
Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) member lines stated this week that they are ready to start sailings and could be underway in 30 days or less. The issues lay mainly with flying all crew in from their respective countries, which will take a considerable amount of time.
No matter the stance the CDC takes on the no sail order, they do have in their hands the future of millions of people dependent on the Cruise industry.
The Cruise companies, the travel agents, the crew, and the guests that enjoy the ships, every one of them is hoping for positive news. Positive news that has been sadly lacking in an industry devastated by the coronavirus in the last six months.

My travel agent has already Quit; out of business, monthly rent was to high with big drop off in income.
Lots of American's depend on the Cruise Industry. -Tom
Royal Caribbean just sent me a cancelation letter for a cruise scheduled late next June...
I had a cruise scheduled for last April that cancelled. It’ll be a log time before I go into one of those Petri dishes again.
The unconstitutional CDC should set sail and never return.
My other FR thread mentioned if the CDC extends this no sail order some Lines may face bankruptcy but Royal Caribbean should survive. It is NCL that is the weak sister. -Tom
When was the CDC given the authority — and by whom — to set national policy for this country?
I thought the order was until October 31?
Sept. 30
Come on. That had nothing to with the CDC’s current order. Your ship got re-deployed and you were offered options for another cruise at that time.
I’m sure you will be fine at home with your mask on.
that was the cruise lines...it will take them a few weeks after the CDC stop the ban to get ready to sail...
The ban ends Sept 30...unless the CDC extends it again...
The cruise lines cant just start Oct 1...
The CDC no sail order is thru Sept. 30th.
The Cruise lines that are members of the CLIA extended their voluntary no Cruising until Oct. 31th.-Tom
It BETTER be lifted!!! NO REASON NOT TO ....except that the CDC wants POWER OVER PEOPLE HAVING FUN!
That letter has GOT to be because they changed the ITINERARY!
“When was the CDC given the authority and by whom to set national policy for this country?”
Yeah! I thought that was Fauci’s job.
“Im sure you will be fine at home with your mask on.”
Last week I saw a news clip about future cruise policies. They actually have people wearing masks.
Cold day in hell when I’d cruise wearing a mask. “Cruise free or die”, I always say.
I wanted to do 100 cruises before kicking the bucket. Now I have time, money and health to do as many as I want. Already at 36 or 37..lost count. CDC can’t stop cruises sailing from foreign countries. Actually some of the best cruises for me were Mediterranean cruises and sailing from Hong Kong and Singapore.
Fear of covid-19 is way overblown for political reasons.
The death rate form covid-19 for age group 50-69 is less than 0.5%.
because of the MAGA economy Trump had created.
“Fear of covid-19 is way overblown for political reasons.”
When this WuFlu started we were on Sky Princess in the Caribbean (Feb. 1-8). Diamond was stuck in port (Japan?) quarantined but the panic hadn’t hit the U.S. yet.
The couple we traveled with probably got WuFlu on board and had high fevers and dry coughs the week after. DH got sick on board with high temp and nausea. All of us were 69 and 70.
In any case, it was much milder than bouts of flu we’ve had. I am pissed that the entire industry shut down. As you said, “overblown for political reasons”.
