"The time for reparations is now," former Democratic presidential candidate Tom Steyer said during a discussion with Glover.

Actor and activist Danny Glover and former 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Tom Steyer joined Democratic lawmakers to call for the passage of a bill to set up a federal slavery reparations committee, emphasizing that "we can't wait" any longer for reparations.

"We can't wait," Steyer said during a virtual discussion held as part of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's annual legislative conference. "This is the moment. The time for reparations is now. We must confront and deal with our history together and repair it as best we can together, if we're ever to move on together."

How would this even work? Let’s say my great uncle once told my father that one of my great-grandparents was black. Am I therefore eligible for reparations?

And what about a 100% black person whose father’s family immigrated to the US in, say, 1880? Does he only get half? Or does he get it all, because in 1880 racist laws were still on the books?

Let’s keep it simple. Send everybody in the country a postcard to be filled out and returned. If you self-identify as 100% white, no money for you. Otherwise, you get $1,000,000.

My ancestor came across in the 1640s on the ship Providence. He was a stow-away, got caught, and was forced to be the captain’s end indentured servant for eight years in Virginia. Slavery is not only a black issue. All races were slaves at one point in time. I’m not going to ask for a handout because it was no one’s fault! Poop happens... if they take reparations from my salary, I WILL fudge the taxes to get the balance back. NO, NO, and NO to reparations.

Don’t forget that daily, merciless, horrific child beatings is the norm for minor punishment in black American households. Those mess up children bad. Yes, white kids get beat sometimes but it’s not endemic to white culture, and white culture generally acknowledges the psychological, emotional, and spiritual damage done by child abuse. Black culture celebrates child abuse and blacks get angry at anyone suggesting their method of child rearing is inappropriate.

Steyer's stupidity is monumental. Taking money from those not responsible for slavery and giving it to those who were never slaves is not exactly my vision of moving on "together".

Reparations should be paid by Brazil (slavery abolished 1888) and Cuba (abolished 1886), and then we’ll think about it.
