For the record I unilaterally oppose no knock warrants I believe they are unconstitutional.

They shouldn't be opposed where there is a clear and present danger from the suspects or that drugs will be flushed down the toilet. Cops get assaulted and even ambushed by these people all the time. No Knocks were not invented just because the cops were too lazy to say "hello." They were invented because of extreme, out of control violence.

Speaking of no-knock warrants:

They were invented because of extreme, out of control violence.

They have been around since the beginning of the Republic.

It is only recently that they have been used promiscuously, and most of the ramping up happened as the murder rate was ramping down.

The risk of drugs being flushed is not worth the carnage that often happens with no-knock warrants. Human life and due process outweigh some lousy drugs getting flushed.

What person, and that includes cops, would not reach for a weapon when the door of their home is broken down in the middle of the night amid unintelligible shouts? FR threads are full of comments where the instinct is to reach for a weapon, and I don't disagree with that. Self defense is instinctive and there is no time to put the thumb on the chin to ponder the situation.

No-knock warrants create a situation where the people inside could reasonably think they are experiencing a home invasion. They happen. Throw into the fact that cops very often get the wrong address, and you have a policy tailor-made for death, mayhem and yes, a reason to distrust the police.

Not good enough reasons to justify. They've used no-knocks on normal everyday citizens just because they can. Same excuse for shooting the small terrier. Their life is on the line every time they don the uniform. Put a trap in the sewer line for drugs. Knock and stand to one side. Busting down doors in the middle of the night is not cool.

Constitution needs to be amended then.

Or, warrant for a toilet/sewer check.

“They shouldn’t be opposed where there is a clear and present danger from the suspects or that drugs will be flushed down the toilet.”

Then the police should have done a better job of getting evidence outside the home. If there were drugs in the home, it got there somehow. Sorry, not worth one DOG getting shot over.

You can trap the toilet. That excuse is BS.

I hate no knock warrants. It is one of only a few points of disagreement between myself and my Trooper son in law.

“...or that drugs will be flushed down the toilet...”

Maybe it’s just me but I’d rather risk having drugs flushed down the toilet than killing an innocent person.
