I rather like point and shoot, and I enjoy revolvers especially as a pocket pistol. For me though, a semi-auto is better in many situations.

My primary defensive handgun is a 1911 in .45 Auto. I’ve been shooting that for decades, it’s the smoothest handgun I own, and I’m a fraction of a second faster with it than with any other gun. It just seems to point where it’s supposed to before I try to aim. It also has only 8 rounds, and I’m not reloading if I need more shots with a .45 than that. I’ll shift to a Glock 17 with 33 rounds, so I don’t have to try to count shots.

I’m just not quite as fast or as accurate with a revolver, so that’s not my primary home-defense choice, until I need to shift with age. Except, I have a 12 ounce airweight S&W .22 in my pocket right now (in home carry all the time). It weighs nothing, and it’s more than satisfactory in accuracy if I don’t have time to get a full-size firearm. It came from the factory defective, which turns out to be a good thing. After they repaired the defects, it shoots like they sent it through their performance center before returning it to me. It may make small holes, but the trigger is smooth, the laser and sights match exactly and are right on, and it makes its small holes exactly where I want them.

Was he flaunting his weapon or his gun?

Glock needs to include a warning on all sides of the box and also etched onto the slide that their handguns MUST be used with the proper holster.

Every handgun must be used with a proper holster that has retention and completely covers the trigger guard. Pocket carry/pants carry without a holster is a ridiculous decision with any gun. Glocks aren’t any more dangerous than anything else. There are just people like this guy who can’t be trusted with firearms. Or chainsaws. Or cars, for that matter.

Ah.

“ The gruesome wound required Ellingford to be airlifted to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland, said police, which added that he did not have a concealed handgun license and could face criminal charges for his reckless behavior.”

The need for two handed operations I think is what concerns me most.

Apparently, he went off half-Glocked...

It’s NEVER good to carry a piece that’s pointed at your piece...

Re G19:
My carry piece of choice as well.
I also train people on it when I teach.
G17 is also nice, just a bit larger.

Never, ever, put a loaded Glock down the front of your pants. There is no safety and the trigger is very light.

Note: I understand that there is a tab on the trigger that keeps the gun from discharging when you drop it, but that doesn’t stop it from discharging when anything moves the trigger. Example: Belt buckle, buttons, misplaced finger.

Where do you get that impression? A Glock has 3 passive safeties (trigger, firing pin, trigger bar) but you’re right in that all are deactivated when the trigger is pulled. Nor IMO is 5.5# light.

All of this is academic as we have here an idiot without CCW permit who waves a loaded firearm about in a grocery; don’t blame the arrow...

“Nor IMO is 5.5# light.”

It is when compared to a DA revolver. It’s almost impossible to accidentally discharge a revolver, but not a Glock. The force required to get it out of your pants is greater than the force needed to pull the trigger. (It’s also a whole lot less than the force needed to discharge a pistol with an engaged manual safety.)

I have a ported Glock 17 and a Para-Ordinance LDA. Both have triggers in the five pound range. Neither is a good concealed carry weapon in Florida. LCP or LCR in the pocket is a better choice.
