Oklahoma State University has something unique to its band. Actually, two things.
Sister station KOCO caught up with Georgia Milham and Mikaila Vaughn two female tuba players who say they are the only two in the entire state and the Division-I collegiate level.
"Don't let people tell you that you can't do something because you're a girl," Vaughn said. "Follow your dreams, do whatever you want."
"Being different is a good thing," Milham said.

That's not a tuba, it's a sousaphone.

Female brass players were rare in HS and rarer still in college.
Do they mean tuba or double bass sousaphone?
Either way, if these gals like it and are good at it, you go girls!

I drive a school bus with a woman who played the trombone for one of the Marine bands. Quite a character 🇺🇸

To be a tubby tuba player or not to be. That is the question.

My wife played the tuba for the Penn State Marching Band, just before we met in 1996. She’s only 5’ 7” and the most feminine woman I’ve ever known.

I could never figure out why anybody would want to learn how to play a tuba. If I was in high school and desired to join the marching band, my instrument of choice would be a flute......

Thank You, I was just going to check that out. JR High Band had Myself and 2 Mexican brothers fighting it out for 1st Chair every week. The brothers were the youngest of 5 and all played the Sousaphone with the 2 eldest on the University of Texas Longhorn Marching Band so I had My work cutout for Me against those 2 in Class. We changed 1st Chair weekly. Too many people misidentify the Tuba vs Sousaphone.
And that concludes My contribution to Civilization for the day 😳🎶
