Yes. Get it. I ordered my first one the day Apple Watch became available; managed to “close my rings” (reach all daily exercise goals) every day of 2017, felt fantastic. Bought a second (after destroying the first), greatly improved with integrated cellphone, ECG, fall detection, etc. The latest with always-on screen and O2 saturation sensor is tempting.

Really like all the additional abilities. Instant access to messages, notifications, health, ECG, weather, music identification, calendar, touchless payments, music, and and and and and...

My kids told me there’s a CoVid tracker on it. No thank you!

Your kids told you wrong. There are APIs necessary to enable Contact Tracking applications if you should opt to install one. The are there, but they are all OFF by default and require the user to opt to turn them on.

They also anonymize the contact information to allow YOU to know if you have been within a certain number of feet of a person with an active viral infection that is being tracked. You won’t know who, nor will the government know you’ve been near this unknown person. Yu will just be alerted you have been. If you become ill, you can opt to start being tracked when you go out and about so others can know they’ve been near you. It works by near field communications and randomized ID notifications, shared on a cloud platform to which only you will have access.

This is the same system being implemented on all Android devices too. . . It’s opt in, and anonymous.

Still running fine with my 6S. Heavy user.

Will probably splurge for the maxed out 12 when it appears; will still cost me under $1/day (assuming similar lifespan).

Re: iPhone SE 2020

I had — and treasured — an iPhone 5C from the time they came out, until a few months ago. Finally had to upgrade because my 2FA security apps were complaining. I wanted the same (small, light, fits in shirt pockets) form factor as the 5C.

The SE 2020 is perfect. Only very slightly larger, but the speed, clarity of the display, functionality, all sorts of improved features, make it a huge step upward. I think you will find the same is true relative to your 6+.

Frankly I think the SE 2020 is the best iPhone Apple has made, in terms of value for cost.

The iPhone 12 will be running the A14 SOC with an 11 trillion decision per second neural engine processor in it as well. It will blow the doors of many desktop computers in the speed department.

Yes, I bought 2nd generation iWatch three years ago with phone plan, which means I can leave my iPhone at home.

In case of emergency, first responders will have your emergency contact, doctors and current medication available immediately.

Also, if you are having an emergency, all you have to do is press the bottom button on the right hand side of the watch and you can summon first responders without calling 911.

I updated to the X when it came out. It became necessary to change carriers and my old IPhone was not compatible with the new carrier.

I wanted to go for the 8 but decided I use the thing a lot and might as well get something that will not be outdated as quickly. It was painful, but is paid for so glad I did that. I like the additional screen real estate without the home button but it did take a few weeks to get used to it.

I’ve never been tempted by the watch but reading how so many love them maybe I should be. I am in my mid 60’s and reading glasses are necessary for most things. I can usually get the messages and even read FR on screen without them if I am in a situation where they are not available.

I just figure the watch would be SO tiny I’d only be frustrated to get alerts and not be able to see them. Am I wrong?

Ok thank you for the info, I really do appreciate your input, because, I hate to say this out loud, but I cannot trust my kids. They listen to soooo many other people besides their parents. They think we are the ultimate in stupid. They won’t say this in so many words, and to my face, but I have zero doubt that that’s what they think. I waffle between thinking that I am a failure as a parent and that they were kidnapped and brainwashed.

I will still wait for 14.1.1 unless someone here (you?) can convince me otherwise. Nevertheless, I thank you.

You’ll have to be the judge of what you can see.

Much of the value is just being able to check information at a glance and know whether to dig out the phone. If you can’t read it at a glance, lose that value.

Though as readability may demand glasses, the health monitoring becomes valuable. Instant ECG, fall detection & reporting, heart rate & O2 monitoring for anomalies, exercise tracking, etc all become useful in the “maintenance” stage of life.

Buy the apple stock and then you can afford the products they sell.

Thank you for the advice.

I’m 71 and a couple of months ago took a very bad fall on my hard kitchen floor. I went to the emergency room and there was no break. But when I saw my doctor at Cedars, he said X-rays show breaks....but NOT FRACTURES so I went in for two CT scans set up by my new neurologist. No fractures but lots and lots of arthritis.

I also had a heart scare on Saturday at the DMV and the Ambulance came. I had been having heart palpitations....but I think it is the air from the fires. It’s been at least a week now. Bad chest pains.

My kids told me there’s a CoVid tracker on it. No thank you!

It is an opt in option, so don't opt in. They also have a fitness app but I have the option to not participate which I don't because it would likely report me dead. You know just say no. There are tons of cr@pware on android phones that you can't say no to. I refused to give in to Windows for the same reason.

If Apple gets to the point that I can't say no, I will really say no.

I am so happy you like the Watch,. I looked and decided I did nit need it. now that I have so much trouble walking I know the phone will alert if the gyroscope does nit sense me getting up after a hard fall. so I am buying the new one ...I think it’s out in a few days.

Does 14 get rid of contact tracing?

It was never there in the first place, al_c. The only things that were installed were the APIs, the Libraries of tools, contact Apps would require to work if the user chose to download and install any of those available. The API’s are by default turned OFF, and must be TURNED ON by the user when he or she installs a Tracing App, thus enabling the App.. It’s all voluntary. It’s controlled at the device level and cannot be turned on remotely or by the app.

You can summon emergency from your regular iPhone. I was able to on my old iPhone but I now also can on my iPhone 11 Pro Max.

Here is Apple showing you to summon emergency from your regular iPhone:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208076

I read about a young man who had an emergency up in the hills while hiking. He successfully summoned help. it’s good to know.
