Software Update
Apple today released iOS 14, iPadOS 14, tvOS 14, and watchOS 7.
This is probably the biggest iOS update in years... read all about it on the source, MacDailyNews, as there are too many improvements to list here.

Oh, boy.
Looks like Ill be doing this when I get home from work tomorrow morning.
I’m buying the watch....anyone have one??? I am getting it for health options.
Its a great (though sobering - I had over 100 items that had issues) summary in one spot of your password usage, and associated vulnerabilities.
I bought the watch about six months ago, but had to return it. It wouldn’t work with my six year old but trusty iPhone 6+. I just couldn’t cough up the dough for a new phone AND a watch.
Nice. Thank you.
Looks good but too much!
I have a Series 4 and love it. At first it seemed like it might be an unnecessary luxury, but Ive found that I depend on it a lot, especially for email and text notifications. I often miss them on my phone, even when its in my pocket, but the watch never lets me miss a single one. And as you mentioned, the health features are great and getting better with the addition of blood oxygen level in the new one.
If you havent owned one before, I also recommend one of the bands that is continuously adjustable, with a magnetic clasp. There are several different kinds; I have the stainless steel Milanese loop. Whats great about them is that youre not stuck with a fixed number of adjustment choices; theyre infinitely adjustable.
How about a new handwashing app on the watch? No, it doesn't actually wash your hands for you...
Handwashing
Automatic handwashing detection using motion sensors and microphone
Once hand washing is detected, 20 second countdown starts
Receive encouragement to keep washing for the recommended 20 seconds when watch detects youve stopped early
Option to be reminded to wash your hands when arriving home
Review how many times and how long you washed your hands in the Health app on iPhone
Available on Apple Watch Series 4 and later
Then there's this update on the iPhone...
Siri
Expanded knowledge brings 20x more facts than three years ago
I am really shocked that they didn't teach Siri to fact-check President Trump in real time.
I had an iPhone 6 and then a 6s, which I loved and kept until this year. Aside from the soaring prices, what kept me from upgrading was that the phones just keep getting bigger, and I want it to fit in my pocket (which is why I also held onto the 4s for so long before my 6).
What finally convinced me to upgrade was the 2020 version of the iPhone SE. Its the best bargain in years. Has the same processor as the 11 pro, but in the design and size of my 6s, and also has a much better camera that comes close to the quality of the iPhone 11s camera. And its only $399 (though I paid $449 to get 128 GB of storage).
This is an amazing update to an already almost perfect iOS.
I never get the first update of any series of them, because there are always bugs that they need/want to fix.
Last week I got 13.6.1 on my iPhone. Now they want me to update again?
My kids told me theres a CoVid tracker on it. No thank you!
If it aint broke, dont fix it!
I have a series 4 that I got at a good discount when the 5 came out. I got a stainless that has cell phone capabilities, but haven’t linked it to a phone plan. But it has the ability to make a 911 call if I should fall or have any other kind of emergency.
It can do an ECG, which I did once just to see if it works. If it thinks I’ve fallen, it asks if I have, and if I need help. And on the rare occasions I exercise, it will record that as well.
If I’m using the Maps app while I’m driving, it will signal my wrist when it’s time to turn.
I have found it to be a handy thing to wear.
I don’t need a phone like that, but many people will be curious about it. I’m considering a purchase of Apple stock after I’ve saved a little more just to dabble with.
Rush may be MIA tomorrow, having been up all night playing with his iOS.
Thanks. I’ll check that out.
When I found the watch wouldn’t work with my old 6+, I went shopping and looked at the three models of the 11 Pro. The price was just staggering. With 128 GB memory, it was in the $1,200 to $1,400 range.
I REALLY like the form factor of my 6+. I got that specifically for using map navigation and haven’t regretted it. It slides handily into any pocket and has a just-right heft to it. One of the 11 models I was looking at had an identical case size, but more screen real estate with the Home button gone. I didn’t care for the notch at the top of the screen to accommodate the camera.
Ive had an Apple Watch since the first one came out. They work great. I use mine for checking my EKG, exercise goals, messages, answering calls, and receiving and sending texts. I can also pay for things using ApplePay with my Watch. Makes going through drive through fast food places easy, or even Home Depot. The latest version just announced can do blood oxygen readings(certified), unlike other devices offered before. It has built in GPS for turn by turn directions and many other functions I find useful. My watchface is currently an orrery of the entire solar system showing the current position of the planets. It also shows the current weather and forecast, plus my calendar of appointments for the day. Oh, it also tells the time and date.
I may have to ask for one for Christmas. I think my current is 3rd gen, so getting long in the tooth.
Blasphemy!
Rush will be on the Golden EIB microphone tomorrow!
God willing! Love you, Rush!
