Go West, Yuengling: Pa. beer maker partners with Molson Coors for major expansion
D.G. Yuengling and Son of Pottsville and partnered with Molson Coors to distribute the Pennsylvania brew to the West Coast.
Hey West Coast beer lovers, its pronounced YING-ling.
The Schuylkill County brewery announced a joint venture with Molson Coors on Tuesday to break out beyond its traditional 22-state distribution area in the East.
The family-owned brewery known for its cheap German-style lager, will remain independent. A six-member board of directors three from Yuengling and three from Molson Coors Beverage Co. will oversee Yuenglings expansion starting in the second half of 2021.
Yuengling has two breweries in Pennsylvania and one in Florida. Molson Coors, the nations second-largest brewer, has seven primary breweries and six craft breweries.
The partnership gives Molson Coors a popular brand at a time when beer sales have gone flat. Beer sales fell 2% in the U.S. last year, with canned cocktails and hard seltzers gaining popularity, according to the Brewers Association, a trade group.
The companies said they will announce in a few months which western states will get Yuengling first.
Jennifer Yuengling, vice president of operations and a sixth generation brewer, said the companies have talked of partnering for some time, and the time is right.

Overrated.
Just my opinion though.
I knew of some people who used to go on road trips for the stuff. Then they got it in our state and the mystique wore off.
$17 for a case of bottles at the local Wallymart. I have learned to love it. :-)
“cheap German-style lager”
Taking a shot at conservatives.
Yuengling may be inexpensive but it’s anything but “cheap”.
Yuengling is an awesome and affordable beer.
Just don’t start puking out that Coors crap under a Yuengling label.
Always been curious to try it, but never found any. I’ll keep an eye out.
Yeah, those are sort of my worries. Not too crazy about the direction since Dick retired.
They can afford to buy all the breweries they need. I guess distribution is their hang-up - where Molson/Coors can certainly help.
The girls will make a shit-ton of money though is my guess.
I like the beer, but have no use for the Inbev/Molson-Coors duopoly. I have taken to 805 beer here in Phoenix. Unfortunately, the folks around here seem to be neck deep in IPAs, instead beer that tastes like beer.
Totally agree - when the Germans I work with came over for meetings in the US, Yuengling was the only American Beer they would drink.
One year, they drove over to Pottsville, PA and took the brewery tour - the Germans were very impressed with an American brewery!
Hope this doesn’t change anything with Yuengling quality...
Completely agree!
I saw it in Massachusetts a few years ago. The name sounds Chinese, but I figured it wasn’t.
I also have seen the name Youngling in California, not beer related, not Chinese. I assume they are variant spellings of the same name.
America’s oldest brewery.
I’ve been drinking it since they tried to boycott it due to the old man’s support for Trump. Mainly the Black and Tan but the lager too. (I can’t stand any IPA, so I’m glad it’s not that type.)
True beer experts!
Let’s hope that Molson-Coors doesn’t do to Yuengling what Anheuser Busch did to Rolling Rock.
By any chance did they go in a Black Trans Am followed by an 18 wheeler with horses painted on it?
German for “Youngman”
Like Coors used to be. People going out west of the Mississippi River would always bring back some Coors..... or Lone Star.....................
