Amazon Prime or Netflix shows that aren't drivel????

Posted on 09/12/2020 1:47:18 PM PDT by WhattheDickens?

Please help bring sanity into my routine. The lock-down is beginning to act like a disease - not a horribly bad one - but a disease nevertheless.

What programs are on Netflix (my brother's account, not mine) or Amazon Prime that are worth the time. I wish we could get Poirot here in the states.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I second Bosch. Most Amazon originals stink, but Bosch is excellent. On Netflix, I highly recommend all six seasons of Longmire.

Jack Ryan on Prime is excellent

Loved 24 and all the spin offs but I think now you have to get them on Hulu

Hunters was very good.

The Man in the High Castle was great.

On BritBox, Midsomer Murders is really good.

Also Good Omens on Prime is very good.

There may be a lot of crap on Netflix, but there is also some great stuff there, too. As already mentioned, The Last Kingdom is well worth your time, as is the BBC’s modern day Sherlock. Violent and profane as all heck, Peaky Blinders is strangely addictive. Our absolute favorite has to be the British comedy series The IT crowd. My wife and I almost needed medical attention we laughed so hard.

I’m not terribly impressed with Prime Video. I always cancel trials before they charge my card. I never fail to exhaust what I want to see there within about 2 weeks. There might be other good reasons for a Prime membership, but Video isn’t what I’d consider one of them.

“Good Omens” on Amazon, based on the Terry Pratchett books.

I’ve enjoyed:

Black Spot
Zone Blanche (original title)

**

A family saga with a supernatural twist, set in a German town, where the disappearance of two young children exposes the relationships among four families

**

The Frankenstein Chronicles

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4206804/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0

Inspector John Marlott investigates a series of crimes in 19th Century London, which may have been committed by a scientist intent on re-animating the dead.

**

Diablero

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7414954/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

A fallen priest, a legendary demon hunter, and a modern day superhero join forces to battle evil.

**

Thieves of the Wood

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5766086/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

An eighteenth century bandit becomes a local hero.

**

This is an impractical suggestion, based on the learning curve, but there is always the usenet.

Poirot. We watch it all the time on Amazon Prime. I don’t do Netflix.

I thank you for clearing that up. Yeah I love that show, I also like the books by Bernard Cornwall. If the TV Series follows the books there could be several seasons to go.

Hey, that reminds me, I really liked the show Reign, which was the story of a young Mary, Queen of Scots.

“Away” on Netflix. Simply awful SciFi

Raised by Wolves (SciFi) on Max may turn our to be OK - so far no queer crap

I’m trying to figure out how to watch the new season of The Crown on Netflix without actually subscribing. I think I’ll wait until the whole season has been shown and then get the free week and binge watch. That’s what I did with Picard. After a year or so they forget that you did that before. Hehe.

Watership Down on Netflix has beautiful animation and is very true to the book.
