The love child of the former king of Belgium is seeking the same rights and titles as her father's legitimate children via the courts.

Delphine Boël, 52, is the child of the former Belgian King Albert II.

The ex-royal admitted he was her father in January of this year after he had fought the paternity claim for over a decade.

LOL!!! Bastards of royalty usually were not granted royal titles.

Except for 13 of Louis XIV’s bastards . . . but he was kind of a strange duck anyway.

Read once in a library book that he had up to 100 “natural children”. Aparently, from his 20s to his late 60s, he dallied with just about any female who came anywhere near him.

Actually male royal illegitimates were made Dukes and girls were married off advantageously to royal favorites.

Royal bastard Don Juan of Austria (1547-1578) was addressed as “Prince” in person and in writing during the period when he led the combined Christian forces against the Turkish fleet... and saved Europe from Islam.

There’s the one line in the article that seems to be clarifying: it looks like it’s similar to Britain, where titles are bestowed by the monarch. With the monarch at least nominally the sovereign, how could a court that is subordinate to his sovereignty compel a discretionary act? I don’t know but of course illegality wouldn’t slow down a federal Judge in this country, it rarely does

Princess Diana was descended from one of King Charles II's illegitimate children. King Charles II's wife was descended from an illegitimate child of Pope Alexander VI.

There was a minor German ruler known as Augustus the Strong who reputedly had 365 illegitimate children. By different women.

Well, yes and no. It is good she has proof of who is her father but can’t help but feel she is after the moolah. If he has been providing for her financially, and she is now an adult, I think legally he has met his obligations. If he has not he should think about a settlement and leave it up to him if he wants to pursue a relationship. Wanting a title in this day and age is laughable.

As a matter of fact, several bastard children actually ascended to the thrones in many countries. Most notable examples:
English king Wilhelm the Conqueror was bastard son of Robert I, duke of Normandy and daughter of random dyer from Falaise.
Spanish house of Trastamara including both Reyes Catolicos descended for bastard son of King Alfonso XI and his mistress Eleanor de Guzman.
Early Norwegian kings were almost all bastards as marriage was not in particular curtom over there.

Holy crap! 365??? That’s one for every day of the year!

There’s obviously much to be learned from those bygone kings and aristocrats. :-)
