According to a retroactive study conducted by a team from the University of Chicago Medicine, people with low vitamin D levels may be up to twice as likely to test positive for COVID-19.
The study was conducted by looking back at nearly 500 patients who had vitamin D levels measured within a year of being tested for COVID-19 and comparing those levels with the frequency of a positive test.
"The relative risk of testing positive for COVID-19 was 1.77 times greater for patients with likely deficient vitamin D status compared with patients with likely sufficient vitamin D status, a difference that was statistically significant," said the study, which was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
Even though researchers concluded that vitamin D can disrupt the replication of viral cells, they cited one potential concern.
"If vitamin D reduces inflammation, it might increase asymptomatic carriage and decrease symptomatic presentations, including cough, making it hard to predict its effect on viral spread."
The study also warned that 50% of Americans have a vitamin D deficiency, particularly noticeable in the Hispanic and African-American populations.
I keep mine around 85-90.
This is news?

The Sun is systemically racist. Obviously. So is milk.
That why I don’t wear clothes outside here.
Course I am very rural and no one can get in with the gate locked all the time 1/4 mile from house.

More proof that the Chicoms’ WhaTheFoo virus was/is a racist virus created by the evil ChiComs.
It has been known for years that getting your Vitamin D is essential to overall good health and a strong immune system that helps to fight off the common cold (and many other viruses).
Exposure to sun (with no sunscreen) is the best way to get your daily allotment. However, those in northern latitudes need to understand that from about October to April, the angle of the sun is not sufficient to provide the vitamin D you need. So supplements are necessary. Probably 2,000 IU a day is enough for most.
You can also get vitamin D from natural food sources like fatty fish, egg yolks, and dairy products. But you will still need a D3 supplement or natural sunshine.
Get 15 minutes of sun every day..more is better....
That’s my daily cocktail, too. I also added NAC after learning about it from Dr. Seheult. I’m taking 1,000 mg three times a day. I take 30 mg zinc daily.
I was found to be B12 deficient a few years back and take a supplement of that (500 mcg every other day). It’s important for immune system function.

If you have darker skin, you might need a lot more than that. Or so I’ve read. Plus old people like me need more sun. And what does sun screen do?
Were you having periodic PSA blood tests prior to diagnosis? If so did the test aid in the diagnosis? Just wondering since there is some debate as to the value of he PSA. Thanks
Would vitamin D3 supplements, vitamin C too, for tens of millions of artificial lighting US urbanites wipe out COVID-19 and flu season as we know it? (Big Pharma cannot afford to cure people.)
But then, partying Democratic elites would have to find something new to weaponize / demonize to stay in power.
Insights welcome.
Send “Orange Man Bad” federal and state government desperate Democrats home in November!
Supporting PDJT with a new patriot Congress and state government leaders that will promise to fully support his already excellent work for MAGA and stopping SARS-CoV-2 will effectively give fast-working Trump a “third term” in office imo.
I dont see any problem with voting Republican ticket for 2020 elections.
Again, insights welcome.
I don’t use sun screen when getting my daily sun dose of Vit. D....Fair skinned I soak it up quicker than a sponge!
I can personally vouch for vit D3. Been taking 5000 iu of it daily for years. Haven’t been sick, not even a cold. Flu shots? Forget it.
It is cool to see a med school suggesting this list. I am adding a couple of items to my intake due to this. Thank you.
The Democrats have wanted to stifle and destroy the vitamin and food supplement market for years...........now we know why............
It is if you haven’t heard it before.................
The best source of D3 is the pills that you get in the store. Yes, sunlight is the best natural source, and food can provide some, but that most dependable source for significant enough D3 to make a difference is purchased. Go to Sam’s or Costco and get 5,000 IU pills for about a nickel a pop. Note that as one gets older, the ability to absorb D from the Sun goes down.
I’ve been taking D3 for years, and was recently tested. The level of “normal” is 30 - 80, and I was at 68. I haven’t been sick for years, other than colds (and one bout of flu after I let myself get completely run down - and that year I had the vaccine...which together show the necessity of getting enough sleep).
Sunshine and milk are white................
Did you know that MEDICARE will not pay for a vitamin D test?............Hmmmmmmm....
