The fuel efficient airplane is hoped to be a solution for the future of airplanes.

Passengers could one travel in the wings of Flying V planes, which is designed with the cabin, cargo holds and fuel tanks placed along two Vs.

Experts tested a 22.5kg and a 3-metre scale model of the futuristic plane, developed by researchers at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands.

The successful flight will be a major boost for the hotel anticipated aircraft as it move into the next development stages.

Dutch airline KLM agreed to fund development of the V-shaped aircraft, which could be the norm one day.

Not likely to have any structural fatigue issues since the fuselage is bearing the load. What I see wrong with the concept for a passenger version of the flying wing is turbulence. You’ll be bouncing around in that thing like a tennis ball with no flex to absorb the loads.

It looks exactly like the one Boeing was working on.

Very similar that’s for sure.

Is this a story from 1995? Boeing has been workkng on the Blended Wing Body (BWB) concept for 25 years.

What is the “V” shape?

I don't see it...

I envision foamy rubber floors on huge rubber dampers then

Or shock absorbers on every row of seats

Flight attendants will really enjoy this

Wow, beds? I wanna fly on the Flying Wing

I have been a couple of bus rides where I wished I could have laid down.

Boeing has explored a similar concept and may still be doing so. At least two major problems are evacuation times and airport design of ramps and jetways.

Yes, the Boeing X-48 scale design UAV, first flight OVER 13 YEARS AGO.

There's also the pesky matter of just where those overhead jet engines go in the event of a hard landing or mount failure. As currently configured, having them crash thru the fuselage would make for a Very Bad Day.

The picture artists' conception makes me think of Cross-eyed Mary, Jethro Tull.

PSA -People Scattered Allover.

Heard that when I got to California after the air crash that finished the airline.

Does it spin around, and come right back to where it started from, like a boomerang?

This type of design is many years old. Seating passengers that far from the centerline makes for an unpleasant flight.

The question should be, does it fly?

This will be an airframe stress nightmare.
I am afraid that this airframe, though innovative, will split in flight, right down the centerline.

I don’t if this will “fly,” but I’d love to see the aerospace/airline industries get back to innovation. In the 20 year span between say 1948 and 1968, things improved by leaps and bounds. And then stagnation. Commercial air travel has basically been stuck in the same place for more than 50 years.

Of course, I know that there have been technical improvements in avionics, autopilot etc, but from the passenger point of view how is flying now improved from 1970? Let me think. Coach & business class on some planes are much fancier with personal pods and makeshift beds, etc. And that does improve the experience if you can afford it.. What else? Smoking is banned, so no more being stuck next to an old lady and her Virginia Slims for a whole flight, I guess. Anything else? I’m running out here.
