U.S. drivers are allowed across the border right now if they're headed to Alaska, but the Canadian Pandemic Act says they'd better not dawdle on the way up.
John Pennington, from Walton, Kentucky, was recently arrested in Banff for violating Canada's Quarantine Act...
Pennington was allowed through the border thanks to a loophole of sorts that lets Americans drive from the Lower 48 through Canada and into Alaska (and vice versa), as long as they drive straight through, i.e., they can't go looking at the majestic Banff mountains. Canada's rules give drivers "a reasonable period" to make the drive and they "must limit [their] travel within Canada to the most direct route" to their destination while "avoiding all national parks, leisure sites, and tourism activities."
the mounties arrested him, and he now faces a fine of up to $569,000 ($750,000 Canadian) as well as up to six months in jail. It's worth noting that Pennington had already been cautioned (and fined) by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police earlier in the trip but had continued to flout the law. Ironically, he now has to appear in

And we need to kick out all anti-Trump Canadian celebrities, they love Trudeau so much, they can go live under his rule.
I assume that the same rules apply to a Buffalo to Detroit trip. The fastest route is through Canada.
Think again. You could be cruising along at 60 mph, windows down, 50 miles from anyone, and The Rona could come floating down out of the sky to land on you and...ultimately...kill you. /s
been to Banff many times and Jasper and we've driven up to Alaska...the inside passage, a little less used...
heck, I drove without my husband with my ford fairmont, a terrible car, with a small trailor, with my three little kids and we camped on the way to Edmonton and back....just the kids and I...heck of an experience.

From that funny/goofy movie Canadian Bacon with John Candy going to “invade” Canada. They get pulled over for all the anti-Canadian graffiti on the side of their truck.
The problem - it’s only in English, but they are in Quebec so it also has to be written in French!
Dan Ackroid is the cop. “So, this is a $2,000 fine - Canadian. Or you can pay in U.S. currency if you wish.”
“Oh - all I have is U.S. How much is that?”
“That would come to $10.50 U.S.”
Well its time for quid pro cuo when the frost back try to come over the border we can start fining the life out of them
Long guns I know from experience; went on a fishing trip as a teenager in a remote part north of Michigan and my step-father took his 30-06 with him.
I don’t know about now but it used to be that if you drove the Alcan to Alaska you could have your guns sealed at the border and be good to go. Just don’t get caught in Canada with broken seal! Of course you can always get temp permits for long guns for hunting.
The border is shut both way except to commercial traffic and the rare exception like the one in the article.
I used to go on fly in fishing trips in Ontario. I got an email from them during the winter. They were almost booked solid for summer 2020, but had a couple of openings. I am guessing they lost somewhere around $800k if not more in revenue. The Canadian government and/or banks have to be backstopping the loans and loss of personal income.
Stupid law but stupid to ignore it.
