U.S. drivers are allowed across the border right now if they're headed to Alaska, but the Canadian Pandemic Act says they'd better not dawdle on the way up.
John Pennington, from Walton, Kentucky, was recently arrested in Banff for violating Canada's Quarantine Act...
Pennington was allowed through the border thanks to a loophole of sorts that lets Americans drive from the Lower 48 through Canada and into Alaska (and vice versa), as long as they drive straight through, i.e., they can't go looking at the majestic Banff mountains. Canada's rules give drivers "a reasonable period" to make the drive and they "must limit [their] travel within Canada to the most direct route" to their destination while "avoiding all national parks, leisure sites, and tourism activities."
the mounties arrested him, and he now faces a fine of up to $569,000 ($750,000 Canadian) as well as up to six months in jail. It's worth noting that Pennington had already been cautioned (and fined) by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police earlier in the trip but had continued to flout the law. Ironically, he now has to appear in

Canada has become a joke. Even the NHL sux now.
Now,
They call him “Lefty!”
While not as bad and I didn’t have to go to the bathroom like you did I had an hour long search going the other way years ago now. It was the last time I crossed the border up til now. I avoided the US the entire run of the 0 administration and haven’t been back. I’d like to return for a visit some day but no immediate plans.
No but my mailman from years ago inadvertently brought a .25 auto in and paid dearly for it. You can do it but there are specific steps you have to take. Long guns easier than handguns.
Any real Americans travelling to Alaska are welcome to use my house as a b&b. No charge. I’m on the way to Alaska. I’m tired of this bs Canadian “government” being idiotic. Real Americans are always welcome in Alberta. The majority will treat you well. There are some in the cities that are tards, but nothing to see there anyways.
I was reading a critical analysis, and the person said most self defense instructors would have taught to fire another shot in center mass.
He was lucky to get away with his arm, never mind his life.
Sigh. I know someday I will go back. Someone I told this to suggested at that time the Canadian Border Patrol was playing a tit-for-tat game to punish Americans for the increased scrutiny Canadians got going down to the states.
Could be true, I suppose.
Use your passport and officially visit Canada.
We dont let people come through the US without a passport to get to Canada. That is the equivalent of what happened. He was never to visit like a tourist because he didnt come in as a tourist.
“...if each illegal alien were fined a a half million dollars.”
You can’t get blood from a turnip.
My take is that there are power tripping you know whats on both sides.
Wasnt as much fun when the Al-Can was a grave road.
17 yrs old ,,,

I thought we are currently banned from Canada, even with a passport.

We have been up into the great white north a few times.
Everyone we met was exceedingly polite and simply nice.
We avoid the larger cities.
IMO when people are not packed in tight and have room to move the breathe easier. More relaxed.
Once we pulled in late looking for a spot for the night along with many other travelers. The host was retired Military and spotted my purple heart plates, yes he helped us out.
That said, I have often seen cars at the border with the seats pulled out and everything laid out for a search.
I had worked with a Canadian and he had numerous tips for the trip. He said that for every ten over the speed limit they cut a finger off, so drive slow; and we did.
Other than that damned HST tax and fake refund...
A great place to visit.
We fished in Canada for over 25 years, drove 600 miles north of Ottawa, and then had a bush pilot fly us in another 100 + miles.
Greatest pike and walleye fishing in Canada {before they put logging roads into the area}.
The last 5 years, the fishing went down the crapper because everyone with a 4 wheel drive {that's everyone in Northern Canada} came in and camped in their vehicles.
When the border guys would search your vehicle, they would have you pile everything you had in it on the road, and you had to re-load it, piece at a time.
When they wanted to be pricks, it could take hours.
There is no ferry service from Seattle. And the ferry service from Bellingham is spotty at best and extremely expensive, should the boat not be broken down or filled to capacity with vehicles. I recently checked and it was almost $3400 for me and my vehicle. I've seen reports of people getting cancelled over and over again because of mechanical difficulties with the one boat that makes the trip. And with the border shut down, that means even more people trying to use the ferry, but without much luck.
Simple solution. The USA should now forbid any and all Canadians from entering the United States for any reason. Many of these Canadians own U.S. wintering properties. Don’t let them go to them by any means of travel. Also, Canadians also have properties in Mexico. Don’t let any of them traverse the USA to go there or return.
Further, stop all freight truck traffic from Canada into the USA. I have repeatedly seen Canadian freight trucks passing by, on Interstate 19 where I am, south of Tucson AZ.
Kick ‘em out and keep ‘em out.
Message received. Canada isn’t the USA. Fine. Canadians, get out and stay out, you screwball Leftists.
