EVEN with his thick, trademark eyebrows hidden by a pair of shades there is no mistaking the superstar smile of Sir Sean Connery.
But as he celebrates his 90th birthday today the man who James Bond fans say has never been bettered as 007 will be celebrating away from the glare of the cameras.
Not seen out in public for three years Connery has become a virtual recluse, determined to have nothing to do with showbusiness or the fictional spy who made him both rich and famous.
He rarely leaves a gated community in the Bahamas where he lives in splendid retirement with his second wife Micheline Roquebrune.
Once able to command eight figure fees for a movie role, the actor has given strict instructions to his agent to turn down all offers.
Instead he prefers to spend his days playing golf, which seems to have given him the unrefined joy that he never truly found making films.

Ahhh, ruff. Just like yer mother likes it, Trebek!
He was outstanding as the beat cop in The Untouchables.
I actually fell asleep in the theater during Zardoz. No one noticed — perhaps I wasn’t the only one!
Also my fav movie ......The Man who would be King.
Happy birthday, Sir Tommy...I’m not usually impressed with members of the make believe set, with the exception of those who actually served in their country’s armed forces, as Connery did. IMO, he always came across as the real deal.
How about the Rock?
He was great, better than any 007 slick movie with young pussy.
Hey, Don't blame me, it was named "Pussy Galore" or renamed by hillary, "All the President's Interns".
Connery was in A BRIDGE TOO FAR...As a British general commanding paratroopers...
He was also a kind of comedy relief in The Longest Day.
He sings briefly in Dr, No.
But he had a whole song, sorta, in Disneys Darby OGill and the Little People.
If Micheline was 90 in 1970, she must be really something now...
I mean which one is Ms Galore?
Most likely all of them.
L
Yeah, he stole that movie from Kostner.
Cary Grant turned down the part of the first James Bond because he wouldn’t commit to more than one film. The rest, as they say, is history.
I have it on DVD, somewhere. I lived in a test-market area for a new-fangled thing called canleTV, back in the early 70s. First-run movies, played over and over. Loved it. Zardoz wasnt a favorite.
I’m guessing off the top of my head because I have no idea......You Only Live Twice?
Had never seen it, tried to get it from Netflix (did not hae) so bought a DVD. Fun movie, two of my favorite actors.
It was answered by who Id originally asked.
Dr. No.
Not only James Bond but was awesome as the beat cop in The Untouchables
Oh yeah, we both love Sean Connery.......we’ve watched several of his movies and “The Untouchables” is one of our favs.......now, I’m trying to remember where he was a recluse professor? Author?......somebody help me.....I can’t think of the name but I remember it......
Are you thinking of “Just Cause”?
