Eternal lockdown? Latest moving of the coronavirus goalpost has Andy Biggs furious
NOQ Report ^ | 8-20-2020 | JD Rucker

Maricopa County Public Health recommends that the mask requirements be kept in place until one of two situations occur:

Until there is no community spread of COVID-19 documented in Maricopa County as defined by a 28-day period during which no new COVID-19 cases are reported to public health

Until a COVID-19 vaccine is widely available with at least 40% of the population vaccinated.

If there is no COVID-19 circulating, then masks are not required to prevent spread.

If there’s a vaccine and approximately 40% of the population vaccinated (about the same percentage that gets the flu vaccine every year), there will be enough immunity to prevent a rapid increase in cases.

Additionally, those who are at higher risk will be able to protect themselves with a measure other than social distancing.

Maricopa County expects to keep the face mask and other COVID-19 lockdown mandates in place until there are ZERO reported cases for 28 days OR a vaccine is as widely circulated as the flu vaccine. If a case pops up during any four-week time period, the clock is reset. In other words, they do not want the lockdown to end, well, ever.

A working vaccine may or may not be coming soon, but achieving 40% adoption likely will not happen quickly. It could be months, even years before there are zero reported cases or flu-vaccine level adoption of an unproven vaccine for a disease that has been completely underwhelming to those under the age of 50-years-old.

Well, what do you think, fellow Arizona citizens? Were masks really about safety? Want to go for another 28 days? How about 56? How about 84? How long until we get 0 cases for 28 days?

False positives? Anti-body positives? 0 deaths but still positives of any kind?

Latest: 161 cases and 4 deaths were reported on Aug 17. Peak number of cases in 1 day was 5483 on June 29. Peak deaths was 95 on July 17th. We're at the very tail end of this.

It’s gone beyond absurd to the point of deliberate sabotage.

Next step: No one can leave their home until we cure the common cold.

I’m waiting for my COVID test results. I hope it’s negative because if I allowed my business and wealth to crumble over this mild cold, I’ll become more bitter than I already am.

I moved to a rural location nine years ago. One thing people complain about here is that there are few “good” restaurants. But that’s not a problem because we spend most of our time on our property and prepare our own food. And thanks to Amazon and the internet in general, we can get anything we want delivered to our property except for building supplies, which I can easily get t Lowes, without wearing a mask.

My point? This lockdown really does not affect us negatively, but if it did, I don’t really know what I would do. I mean, I consider it way too similar to the russian revolution and a few other totalitarian things going on in the world. If it was actually impacting me, well, I might have responded accordingly.

And since it affects me positively ($700 after tax bonus by avoiding a 3 hour daily commute and parking fees), the longer it lasts, the better, from a strictly personal perspective.

And we have more than enough to keep us busy here on Galt’s Knob.

That was my take on May 1st. If it was affecting me directly I don’t know how I would have responded.

Absolutely ludicrous. And they say the vaccine will not be mandatory. With rules like this, it may not be mandatory, but we are not taking our boot off your neck unless enough people take the vaccine.....

Riding the subway the other day tells me most people wear the cheap disposable light blue masks. The ones that say on the box that they are not designed to stop viruses. Most are wearing the mask loosely with lost of ventilation around the perimeter. It’s all kabuki mask theater.

I'm seeing this a lot, along with discussion of "herd immunity".

I have several questions:

1) Why has the 40 year long project to develop a coronavirus vaccine for prevention in humans failed?

2) What if there is never a safe and effective vaccine for SARS CoV 2? (most probable outcome, IMO).

3) Is there herd immunity for Coronavirus OC43?

4) Is there herd immunity for Coronavirus HKU1?

5) If there is no herd immunity for other widely circulating human betacoronaviruses, why should SARS CoV 2 be different?

Wear masks, protect the vulnerable. We know how to fight viruses.

My friends wife was placed on 14 day quarantine after taking a chicom virus test. It was negative but her company insists she stay quarantined for the whole time. (Aside I tested negative on a Monday and had an endoscopy that Thursday. The test results were fine for my MDs.) My frau asked this question
Suppose her husband took a test, was negative, and his company said he had to come back to work. What does he do?

Similar here. Financially, health, etc. for the immediate family ok so far (thank God).

We don’t vacation, dine out, go to concerts, etc. too much any more anyways, so that part doesn’t effect us either.

But it’s the social/cultural damage - weddings, funerals, baptisms, taking the grandkids to the park, the fairs, the parades, church, museums, etc. - that part has me riled.

And the fact that leftist goons are hell bent on continuing to destroy our culture and livelihoods.

Masks don’t protect the vulnerable. The vulnerable should be protecting themselves. We can’t shut down the economy and lose our freedoms. We are all responsible for our own safety. But we should not all have to lose our freedoms.

This is a Presidential election year. Everything should be viewed as suspicious.

They have created a puzzle box with no solution.

The only way (IMHO) this will go away is when it fades from view (when the virus updates appear on page 23 of the newspaper).

When the powers that be decide enough is enough, they will just start focusing our attention on other things, and people will begin to forget, then concern will be marginalized. It’s human nature.

It’s really our Republican Governor Doug Ducey who is screwing up. He touted himself as pro-business. But he really turned out to be a corporate communist as I like to call these CEOs.

Remember months ago when we were all saying this mask crap and other restrictions would last for as long as people put up with it?

OK, Arizona citizens...your move.
