NYC IS DEAD FOREVER. HERE'S WHY

I love NYC. When I first moved to NYC it was a dream come true. Every corner was like a theater production happening right in front of me. So much personality, so many stories.

Every subculture I loved was in NYC. I could play chess all day and night. I could go to comedy clubs. I could start any type of business. I could meet people. I had family, friends, opportunities. No matter what happened to me, NYC was a net I could fall back on and bounce back up.

Now it's completely dead. "But NYC always always bounces back." No. Not this time. "But NYC is the center of the financial universe. Opportunities will flourish here again." Not this time.

"NYC has experienced worse". No it hasn't.

A Facebook group formed a few weeks ago that was for people who were planning a move and wanted others to talk to and ask advice from. Within two or three days it had about 10,000 members.

Every day I see more and more posts, "I've been in NYC forever but I guess this time I have to say goodbye." Every single day I see those posts. I've been screenshotting them for my scrapbook.

Three of the most important reasons to move to NYC:

- business opportunities

- culture

- food

and, of course, friends. But if everything I say below is even 1/10 of what I think then there won't be as many opportunities to make friends. =

Some NYers are heartbroken over what is happening to the city we love but you do your little “happy dance” if that makes you feel good.

It's called schadenfreude, from German, the secret gleeful feeling you get when another is served the bad luck they deserve. New Yorkers, the city not the state, have been looking down their noses at flyover country for decades... You cnn hardly blame flyover country when NY'ers trip into a mud puddle.

BS> Take the Southern CA, the LA area...It’s literally been going downhill for 4 decades and the endless line of million of foreign nationals, Muslims and illegal aliens are not going anywhere. In fact they multiply. I could go on for an hour about how that entire region has gone downhill in decline.

Anyone who thinks it’s somehow magically coming back, is seriously delusional.

If anyone deserves to live in SF, it’s a NYer.

Awesomely haunting song.

Shoot the politicians and give the police the green light on cracking heads and it can come right back.

“We’re good thanks.”

Maybe you can help bring it back.

I’ll root for YOU. The lefty jerks there, not so much.

There’s too much money invested in NYC for it to die. Get a new mayor in there ASAP.

One of the insurance co’s I work for has a claims unit in downtown NY and most of all the employees are now working from home with just a skeleton crew in downtown office and when the lease is up those are going to be gone as well as they are moving it to another state. Around 400 employees.

“If they ever invent time travel, I want to go back and live in New York in 1946. “

I’ve got my time-travel itinerary figured out. DC during WWII, New York late 40-50s, LA late 50s to early 60s.

The strong will still thrive in NYC even if covid is forever.

Fairweather transplants will leave but it’ll only bring down real estate prices for the risk takers and artists. The true heart of the city

NYC will be destroyed by a tidal wave after a giant meteor strikes the Atlantic Ocean on Sunday, Sept. 20th 2020...How do I know? The Day of the Lord is here. Research it. You have very little time.

Hey, doesn't the Bible say that no one knows the hour when the Lord will come again - and that anyone who says they do is a false prophet? Asking for a friend.

I wanted to move there for a year.

The BEST view of NYC is the one you see in your rear view mirror.

Welcome to NYC, home of bumper-to-bumper traffic anywhere you go. Home of alternate days parking, when parking on the wrong side of the street on the wrong day can cost you well over $100 in fines. Get used to circling the block several times to find a parking space, finally getting one 2 blocks from your house and you're toting heavy grocery bags---and 3 or more cars lined up behind you if you look like you're leaving your space.

Get used to very high property taxes, sales taxes and any other kind of taxes.

Get used to worn-away lane markings so you to guess what lane you're in--and burnt out street lights not replaced.

Get used to bums trying to get a handout from you. I hope no one mugs you or attacks you because you're white or just because you're there.

Get used to a horrible public transportation system which almost guarantees you'll be late wherever you're going. You get to play "Count the Rats" scurrying on the subway tracks at night and weirdos approaching you on the platform. The bus and subway fares only go up, while the service goes down. Be prepared to duck as urban teens come into your subway car and proceed to use the handholds as a jungle gym, accompanied by LOUD crap music supplied by a portable stereo system. Tuck yourself in really good as their sneakers fly past your face and narrowly miss it.

If you do find a place to live that you can afford, make sure it has excellent security. I hope you like the sound of sirens and car alarms day and night, BTW.

Remember, the insane City Council passed a law in January which lets perpetrators of even serious crimes to leave the police station immediately after arrest without bail or jail, freeing them to go and commit the same crime the next day and the next. And believe me, they have.

And remember, the same insane City Council and the commie mayor DumblASSio stripped a BILLION BUCKS from the NYPD. So now they have the regular crimes to deal with AND the idiots burning, looting, and assaulting for Antifa and Anschmifa, plus BLM. Anarchy is the new normal in a lot of NYC's neighborhoods now.

I am so very happy I moved out of NYC last fall. I had honestly forgotten what contentment, happiness, even bliss had felt like. I get far nicer service at any store I go to. No alternate parking, always get a parking space close by. Absolutely love the extensive trees and expansive meadows I see as I drive around in the area. This is a far better place to live. There is nothing in NYC I can't get here and none of the stuff I described above to have to endure. Forget NYC!

“We’re good thanks.”

Define “good”? Is it just tolerable or do you still like living there? I have many relatives who still live in the city. All complain about it but some stay for their jobs. Others have lived there all their lives and can’t imagine leaving since they know nothing else.

Many people left temporarily but there were also people leaving permanently. Friends of mine moved to Nashville, Miami, Austin, Denver, Salt Lake City, Austin, Dallas, etc.

And like a spreading cancer, these leftists will continue to vote Democrat and turn their new homes into the same cesspool they left behind.

My son is 55 and has been there for 30 years. He’s very saddened by all this. His first love are the museums.

Museums?! You mean monuments to white supremacy? How totally racist.

It will eventually bounce back It bounced back in the past because people, including politicians, worked to bring it back. Now you have nihilists like De Blasio, who want to see the city destroyed. When you have the rich and the middle class fleeing, what's left isn't going to be pretty and the decline will accelerate. A city needs people to keep things running, and if those people leave, the infrastructure will begin to crumble. It needs revenue streams, and if the rich and middle class leave, that will run out pretty fast. This time, things are a lot different.

dp, you’re one of my favorite posters and we agree on much. But you have to admit that due to Cuomo and DeBlasio, things are not trending in a good direction in NYC. I listen to a lot of the Fox Business News channel and I’ve heard former Guv Pataki multiple times. Yesterday, was the first time he sounded beyond concerned. He loves his city and he sees it deteriorating before his eyes, because of the failed leadership. I like that you defend your den, I defend Detroit, because it needs defending. But I’m also a realist and there are certain parts of the D that are just no go.
