With the college football season in serious jeopardy due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Big Ten could be closer to pulling the plug.
According to a report from ESPN, the vast majority of Big Ten presidents are in favor of postponing the season while hoping to play in the spring. Yahoo! Sports Pete Thamel reported Big Ten presidents and chancellors are scheduled to meet Sunday night.
A Big Ten spokesman confirmed to MLive on Saturday that conference presidents and chancellors were meeting that day but there was no vote planned on playing football this fall. The conference on Saturday morning announced practice restrictions, preventing teams from wearing pads until further notice.
We understand there are many questions regarding how this impacts schedules, as well as the feasibility of proceeding forward with the season at all, the Big Ten said in a statement on Saturday. As we have consistently stated, we will continue to evaluate daily, while relying on our medical experts, to make the best decisions possible for the health, safety and wellness of our student-athletes.
ESPN reported commissioners from Power Five conferences had an emergency meeting on Sunday as Big Ten presidents wanted to get a feel if the other conferences would also cancel fall sports.

It will change the so called education system
I never thought that I would agree with a Clemson player about anything, but I applaud Lawrence for speaking the truth.
This is ridiculous. For goodness sake, they played during the Spanish Flu pandemic.
The Big Whatever Conference is deliberately attempting to screw everyone else, especially the SEC.
Spot on.
Im so angry that I could explode.
Indeed, it is. We didn't shut down college sports during the epidemics of swine flu (2009), SARS (2003), Hong Kong flu (1968-1969), or Asian flu (1957-1958). The 1918 Spanish flu epidemic caused the delay of the start of the season until November--at least in California--but the season wasn't cancelled.
SEC should play. Championship game in Atlanta will be default Natty game. Who gives a crap about the Big Ten? Screw them.
For what's it's worth, I think that athletes from revenue generating sports should be given a supplement. That said, the season needs to go on. We cannot allow a mild virus paralyze our way of life.
Clemson vs The SEC has worked fine for a while now.
I’ve taken. your position in regards to pro sports and and now about to join you based on the “demands” of these Pac 12 players.
Not a single one of these “athletes” belong anywhere near a college classroom.
Translation.... taxpayers will bail us out.
If the Big 10 goes, they all go. No college football this year.
It would be the right move.
Shut up meathead and come out of your mom’s basement once in awhile. Breathe the fresh air.
Not millions. We are talking several billion $$ among the power 5.
One one of the major conferences cancels the season, the others will follow as the potential liability would be too great. The games in the stadiums are not the problem, the players at practice and during games would be a risk and the tailgate parties would be a huge risk.
If the Big 10 isnt playing, then nobody is playing. They will all cancel. This decision isnt being made in a vacuum and all the conferences know it.
Also, SEC teams would never be able to handle the grind of a Big Ten schedule.
See post #35.
One step closer to herd immunity
One step closer to herd immunity.
Herd immunity is not the issue.
Liability is the problem.
Because Red China told them not to play. Doesn’t fit the con image.

Lots of dead weight in the “Big” 10: Indiana, Purdue, Rutgers, Northwestern, Nebraska. Minnesota and Iowa most years, too. Michigan going through a rough patch now and barely beat Navy last year... Only traditional powers are OSU and PSU. No comparison to SEC. Sorry.
