Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan asks judge to reconsider recall decision, says she has no duty to dictate police policy
Seattle Times ^ | 7/15/20 | David Gutman

Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan has asked a King County judge to reconsider her ruling to allow a recall petition to proceed against the mayor, arguing the use of tear gas to disperse protesters was a decision made by police Chief Carmen Best, not the mayor, and that it was a reasonable one.

King County Superior Court Judge Mary E. Roberts last week dismissed six claims against Durkan as insufficient for a recall, but allowed a seventh to go forward. That claim alleged Durkan failed to implement new policing policies after tear gas and other chemical agents were used on protesters.

The ruling was an initial victory for Durkan’s opponents in what would be a long process to recall the mayor. Roberts’ role is to assume the charges, as filed against Durkan, are true, and to determine whether they’re both specific and serious enough to allow the petition to proceed. Next, opponents would have to collect more than 50,000 signatures from Seattle voters - one-quarter of the votes filed in the last mayoral election - before a special recall election could be held.

A recall election would be a simple up or down vote on Durkan, with no opponent on the ballot. If the recall succeeded, the city council president, currently M. Lorena González, would become mayor.

Hey Jenny, after the dismal failure of your so-called mayoral leadership, you better get the f**k out of there if you know what’s good for you.

Why does this even need some judge making a ruling? You get signatures, it goes to a vote, the end. Is this more typical RAT rules protecting the RAT ?

Judges rule over us. They make all the important decisions and we just get stuck with their vision of the correct way to run society.

If this recall does succeed, the result is going to be worse.
This is not long suffering people rising up...its being pushed by folks more left of the leftist mayor.

I was really hoping this Chaz nonsense would have at least sparked a little conservative light in some folks but I see that’s not the case. The recall moves forward because she failed to restructure the police so they couldn’t use tear gas; not, she held back the police from quelling the violence. #Idiots.

Thanks - I thought my brain stopped working - hard to believe that it’s the anarchist lovers trying to depose an anarchist loving Mayor.

This appears to be a left leaning move. Just get that feeling after a quick review. Interesting if the Libs are wanting to recall one of their own. If correct this is a warning call to all non-commie Libs, your next.

All true. When I first heard of the proposed recall the fanciful part of me thought it the actions of citizens fad up with the criminal stupidity of elected SeattLunatics.

In a homage to your tag line we find the residents of this particular nuthouse attempting the push the limits of stupidity to where no man has gone before...

“Judges rule over us. They make all the important decisions and we just get stuck with their vision of the correct way to run society.”

The only reason the blacked robed tyrants rule over us is Congress and the State Legislatures permit the tyranny. The Constitution gives Congress the power to determine the jurisdiction of the federal courts below the Supreme Court. Congress today can vote for a law restricting the ability of individual federal judges, or each federal court, to declare laws passed by Congress or executive regulations unconstitutional. Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell could have solved this problem during the first two years of the Trump presidency when Trump would have signed the bill. They didn’t. Clearly the GOP politicians are complicit.

Once again conservatives are told we must preserve White House, the GOP Senate, and recapture the House. Assuming all three happen do you really believe anything will change with Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House and Mitch McConnell as Majority Leader in the Senate? They couldn’t even repeal Obamacare the last time they had control of both houses of Congress. They wouldn’t fund the building of the wall even though the vast majority of American citizens wanted it. Remember, Trump funded the wall by taking the money out of the military and HHS budgets. The GOP Congress would not pass a spending bill funding the wall.

Dig this - they don’t want to impeach her for allowing Seattle to become an out-of-control liberal anarchy zone — they want to impeach her for being too mean about trying to prevent it.
