The NFL’s Washington franchise announced on Monday that it is officially retiring the “Redskins” part of its name. What will they go by now? We have no idea. It’s a weird move to announce a name change without a new name, and a theory is emerging that would explain why the club decided to do it that way. According to several Washington Post reporters, the preferred pick for the team’s new name is already trademarked by someone else, and the two parties are now fighting over it.

I though a person had to have a legit business to trademark a name. Having just a website doesn’t sound legit to me.

Dan Snyder wants to change the name of the team. OK, so it turns out that the name is trademarked already.
So either Dan has to pick another name, or negotiate with the owner of the trademark.
If somebody else owns the trademark, then Synder needs to pony up the big bucks. How badly does he want that nickname?
Sounds to me like something which opposing sets of attorneys for each party can negotiate, as to what a fair market value for that trademark is.
A high school in Minnesota changed their name to the Blooming Prairie AWESOME BLOSSOMS.
His RedHawks is already in use by Miami University in Ohio!

I propose District Cucks, and since Washington owned slaves the area will eventually be renamed by the socialists, and the initials can stay the same for the city. Also recommend returning most of D.C. to Maryland just as they did with the Virginia area of the federal square district.
