The monkeys are snatched from the wild and trained to pick up to 1,000 coconuts a day, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) said
The animal rights group said pigtailed macaques in Thailand were treated like "coconut-picking machines".
In a statement, Waitrose said: "As part of our animal welfare policy, we have committed to never knowingly sell any products sourced from monkey labour.
Male monkeys are able to pick up to 1,000 coconuts a day, Peta says. It's thought that a human can pick about 80.
It said it also discovered "monkey schools", where the animals were trained to pick fruit, as well as ride bikes or play basketball for the entertainment of tourists.

Next time in the market I’ll be sure to look for “No Monkey Coconuts.”
One thing about domesticated animals is they tend not to go extinct.
To a monkey it’s got to be a pretty good gig. Spend countless hours a day foraging for food every day or pick coconuts and get as much food as you can eat...in safety.
and they certainly tend to get better medical care for dam sure

If monkey labor must be banned so must bee labor in the production of honey (and yes Leftist vegans have pushed this issue for years).
