The monkeys are snatched from the wild and trained to pick up to 1,000 coconuts a day, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) said

The animal rights group said pigtailed macaques in Thailand were treated like "coconut-picking machines".

In a statement, Waitrose said: "As part of our animal welfare policy, we have committed to never knowingly sell any products sourced from monkey labour.

Male monkeys are able to pick up to 1,000 coconuts a day, Peta says. It's thought that a human can pick about 80.

It said it also discovered "monkey schools", where the animals were trained to pick fruit, as well as ride bikes or play basketball for the entertainment of tourists.

Good help is hard to get.

An old prejudice dies hard.

So they spank the monkey for doing a good job? Typical lefties.

File it in the You Learn Something New Every Day inbox: I didn’t even know monkeys were picking coconuts commercially.

I’m not a Budweiser kind of guy, but I do enjoy the adverts with the Clydesdales.

The money’s is basketball.

Also if they are that successful, they should have a strong market for their services in the NYC public schools.
And most large cites.

President Hussien Obama had all coconuts removed from the areas of Mumbia he was visiting in 2010, so none would drop on his head.

Were monkeys used for this task?

The seriousness of the charge should warrant a investigation.

“people tend to take care of work animals”

Especially one that cheaply does the work of 12 humans!

And no union; yet?

That right. We only eat food from slave underpaid labor!

1000 Coconuts

You pick a thousand coconuts and what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt...

Tennessee Ernie Ford; the best!

Male monkeys are able to pick up to 1,000 coconuts a day, Peta says. It's thought that a human can pick about 80.

So about 10 coconuts per hour. Must be union labor. Meanwhile, those monkeys don't monkey around. Perhaps they had no bananas.

“As part of our animal welfare policy, we have committed to never knowingly sell any products sourced from monkey labour.”

LOLOL...”sourced from monkey labor.” Now I’ve heard it all.

Animals provided all motive power until man harnessed heat in the late 18th century.

When I worked in China 45 years ago, they used MEN pulling the tow ropes to haul barges up the upper Yangtze. They didn’t even have mules to abuse.
