She sustained multiple goring wounds and was treated by rangers before being flown to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center for further treatment.
The news release said the woman approached the bison several times near her campsite at Bridge Bay Campground in northwest Wyoming before the bison charged.
The attack serves as a reminder that wildlife in Yellowstone National Park are wild, the release said.
Park visitors must stay 25 yards away from all large animals in the park including bison, elk, bighorn sheep, deer, moose and coyotes, the release said. If people encounter bears and wolves they should stay 100 yards away.

Guam is tipping.....
“...If people encounter bears and wolves they should stay 100 yards away.”
Just 100 yards?!!! Grizzly bears can run up to 35 mph, and black bears are even a little faster.
Funny. I always thought that was ‘picanic’ basket.
Well, Gov bean counter beat me to the punch with a similar thought process up in 22.
If only she spoke Bison.
The bison warned her several times that, “Al Gore!!!”
I think Ruth is 172.
More like nat geo tv now days Disney has not had wildlife shows in 30 yrs
She should be required to pay the medical expenses herself.
Stupidity should cost people.
Having lived in Alaska I can tell you many tourists think they are in an animated Disney theme park.
a) huge, b) horned, c) not terribly bright — that also describes moose, except I would add d) ornery. They can attack without any provocation and are really dangerous.
They wander through our property in Idaho a few times a year. Fun to look at.
“So getting close and personal with one is not advisable.”
But the one thing in your list that the bison is is not too bright. Trying to walk up, multiple times, on a battering ram at 8 feet tall and more than a ton in weight, and a bad attitude when they are bothered by anything, isn’t real bright either.

Good choice
When you enter Yellowstone through the rangers entry points, you are handed a pamphlet describing what actions are inappropriate. Signs are everywhere of a bison goring a human into the air. Yet many times when I go, people have to leave the safety of their SUVs and wander out where bison are grazing. If you tell them to get back in the vehicles with their children they get angry. I give up.
Pretty sure it looked something like this...
“Remember Grizzly Man?
He ended up Grizzly Breakfast?”
Both he and his girlfriend were the catch of the day.
I never got to see it but, My buddy said it was all messed up. BRAND NEW cattle trailer and all it took was two buffalo to do it.
Said those two critters went completely nuts once they got them in there.
Ha!
“In retrospect, I should have let her. It would have been cheaper...”
Now, now. LOL!
