First, what is your intended use. “Sniper” rifle to me means more than just the rifle. It’s a system that requires a good bit of hands-on (range time) to be able to do what you want.

An AR-15 with a LPVO will do what 99% of homeowners need to well past any range that could be legally justifiable.

Biggest problem right now is getting enough ammo to develop competence with any weapon system other than 12 ga shotgun, though buckshot seems pretty hard to find.

Looking for something with 500M accuracy. Just can't get into the 5.52. Maybe .308.

I DO have a shotgun, which is why I probably forgot about it :)

The Israeli IDF uses the Ruger 10/22 as their urban sniper rifle - with a tad bit of modification.

The heck with buckshot. That stuff goes sailing through multiple walls.

Load up with #7 1/2 or 8 birdshot. Perfect for close in home defense and usually stops in the assailant or IN a wall/trim. Those 5-600 pellets are devastating within its range.

Locally, the shelves are full of .380 and .40 S&W. 9 and ,45 are about the only things in short supply. Hunting ammo looked good, too.

It’s 300 yards to the start of my driveway so the 30.06 with the ATN X-Sight II HD 5-20X works well.

Good advice. I have a RRA lower with match trigger and adjustable buttstock. Either my light weight 16” upper with an Aimpoint red dot with removable night vision behind it that can also be swung out of the sight line or a 20” medium weight match barrel with 4-12 power scope can be used. Both have rail gas blocks so iron sights could be fitted.
