Mnuchin, speaking on CNBC television, said he was prepared to go back to Congress for more money to support the economy, but additional funds would be targeted to sectors with the most need, including hotels, restaurants, travel and entertainment firms.
The Treasury chief, who has been the Trump administrations point man for negotiating rescue programs, said that he was confident that COVID-19 infection spikes in certain areas could be dealt with due to improvements in testing, contact tracing and ample hospital capacity.
We cant shut down the economy again. I think weve learned that if you shut down the economy, youre going to create more damage and not just economic damage, he said, adding that this includes other problems.
Mnuchin said of the $3 trillion in coronavirus rescue spending approved by Congress this year, only about $1.6 trillion has filtered through the economy so far.
Over the next month, youre going to see over another $1 trillion pumped into the economy, thats going to have a big impact, Mnuchin said. The Federal Reserves Main Street Lending program for mid-size businesses is just getting started and were prepared to go back to Congress for more money to support the American worker, he added.

Well, I hope this a shot across the bow, that we aren’t going to shut down the country again, if the feared 2nd wave hits.
Make no mistake. The protesting and rioting going on is because of the lockdown. It was like stockpiling a lot of lumber and gasoline. All it needed was someone to throw a match. This particular match was named George Floyd, but the leftists have a whole box of matches.
The Dems have to look for another tactic. They’ll find one. That’s what they do. This good cop and bad cop will last about a month to 50 years.
The lockdown created large groups of unemployed with free time and government pay. They dont want to go back to work when they can get paid more to loot and destroy.
Calling Captain Obvious. Captain Obvious to the red phone.
Wanna bet? Trump kowtowed to Fauci and will do it again.
Good. The whole point of shutting down was not to “make Covid go away,” it was to give hospitals time to prepare to deal with it. They are prepared now. Back to work.
And BTW Mnuchin's 'we' is not we in the collective sense, it is 'we' in the democRAT governor/mayor sense.......
Theoretically...if the protesters were homebound...then Nos should rise...but which numbers....herd nos....hospitalized nos...active cases....
It's a numbers game....and Fauci who is still in love with Hillary, is the leader of the pac....and Cuomo is his BFF.
Now Fauci is playing with us with a vaccine. He said it may only be good for 3-6 months. Then why bother. Ahh....so we should have a booster...and another....and another. I don't want all that sh** in my body.
The most important two words in the whole article (not that I read “the whole article”) are
“weve learned”.
After Trump leaves office (in 2025, or after), in Trump’s “memoirs” or whatever they call it, he will say that his biggest mistake/decision was to shut down the economy.
Not that I blame Trump. He had no choice. With the information he was given, by the caliber of people who gave it, and the possible ramifications (READ MILLIONS OF DEATHS), what would you have done?
How HARD was that for Trump? Trashing the economy that HE BUILT. Clearly his biggest success.
SHUT DOWN flights from China (only person in the room in favor was himself)
SHUT DOWN flights from Europe. Flights from UK, OK.
SHUT DOWN flights from UK, like the next day, reversing himself.
Getting PPE and ventilators (how I have come to hate that word, repeated ad nauseam) building thousands of beds hospitals complete with staff, in DAYS!
NO PRESIDENT, NO PRESIDENT EVER! Handled a crisis better than President Trump. (Maybe Washington, but Washington is in a class by himself).
Esther 4:14 CEV Contemporary English Version (I changed it a little)
” It could be that you were made president for a time like this!”
For Such A Time AS This by Wayne Watson (chorus)
For such a time as this
I was placed upon the earth
To hear the voice of God
And do His will
Whatever it is
For such a time as this
For now and all the days He gives
I am here, I am here
And I am His
For such a time as this
The hand of God is upon this man, Donald Trump. Don’t doubt it for one second.
THANK YOU JESUS!
“The most important two words in the whole article are weve learned”.
Here’s more food for thought from the article:
“... sectors with the most need, including hotels, restaurants, travel and entertainment firms.”
Sounds like leisure is what we’re all about.
I don’t think Trump had a choice in the matter.
In the beginning he was minimizing the threat and trying to avoid taking drastic action, but with opposition politics (When Pelosi and Schumer starter to exploit this scare) he got into a jam where it’s damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
Imagine what the stories would be today had Trump stood like a wall and not taken any action. Right now you’d have people on TV blaming him and the media running with it 24/7. You’d have web-sites with body counts, face pics and blaming Trump... This was political defensive medicine. A horrible waste of resources and cost to our economy.
Do I agree with the over reaction? No. It was stupid and accomplished little anyhow. The disease will still spread and run its course. Many of these very contagious diseases cannot really be contained. The actions required would be so draconian that the consequences would outweigh any benefit in fighting this disease.
Realistically, you can shelter a small percentage of the population (those at high risk) and for the rest it’s just business as usual. The cool thing is that there is an inverse relationship between how contagious and lethal these diseases are. The cold, flu and yes even this BS corona virus are very contagious but not really that lethal. On the other hand, diseases that are extremely lethal tend to be less contagious, we have vaccines or meds for them, and in many cases very avoidable (Prion disease, Plague, Ebola...).
For example, the Ebola scare a few years past: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/ebola-virus/expert-answers/can-ebola-spread-through-air/faq-20115575 (not really that contagious) But in Africa where they mourn over a dead body, washing it, hugging it, kissing it...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_human_disease_case_fatality_rates (the general rule is obvious - the more deadly, the less contagious, or we have a cure, or it’s environmentally avoidable).
IMHO- Trump got trapped. He did what he had to and likely isn’t really on board with much of what happened.
Gee, you think?
