Richmond police were on the scene

Richmond police were on the scene, apparently told not to intervene.

If anyone tried to pull down a statue of Martin Luther King, or Obama, would police simply stand idly by????? How are decisions made about when to defend public property against the criminal element?

“He who controls the past...”

WHEN is SOMEBODY going to put a stop to this wholesale destruction of our history?

All right. Enough already. This stops now.

Mr. President, please call out the military. We cannot have people destroying our history!

I am sure that many men will want to help. They are as patriotic as they come.

Next step, cast a giant Trump statue to take the place of Jeff Davis.

What’s the statue count now? They’ve been toppling so many of them.

Unbelievable how they get away with it.

Do they know that he’s buried in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, along with J.E.B. Stuart, George Pickett, and a bunch of other Confederate soldiers? Or that his Presidential Library and mansion Beauvoir is in Biloxi, Mississippi? I visited all of them years ago...before Hurricane Katrina hit.

Next burn the Library of Congress and the Smithsonian. They are filled with the works of white oppressors. /s

Seriously, anyone who destroys priceless historical monuments should be executed on the spot.

Jefferson Davis - Political Party: Democrat.

Actually... Pretty much every confederate was a Democrat before the civil war, or became a Democrat after the civil war.

William ‘Jefferson’ Clinton... They didn’t call him Jefferson for nothing. Should Bubba change his middle name?

AP reports? AP would be lying through their teeth would they not?

Protesters tore down a statue of Confederate President Jefferson Davis along Richmond, Virginia’s famed Monument Avenue on Wednesday night.

Protesting would be a legal activity. Destroying property is not.

Does the Trump Administration have a plan? This is a nationwide uprising that is ongoing, with no opposition.

What were Jefferson Davis’ accomplishments that earned him a statue? Was it his flawed military strategy? Or perhaps the economic intervention, regulation, and state control of manpower, production and transport that were much greater in the Confederacy than in the Union?

As its capital, the Confederacy is Richmond's authentic weirdness - the only other national capital to have sprung up on these shores in the last two hundred years.

Instead of embracing that and offering candlelit horse-dran ghost tours and the like, Richmond is like, "I want to be like everywhere else on earth." I want to be some random hip city in the nation's new constellation of second-rate hip cities.

And so they shall. Pity for Richmond. Pity for tourists who like seeing new things. Pity for those who look to history for lessons. Pity for Richmondites who like pleasant art. Pity for those who love the good things the South stood for in that war, like States' rights and State nationalism.

What positive changes have resulted from the statue revolt? Is Utopia any closer now? Are we there yet?

Good thing all those purists stayed home and didn’t vote for Gillespie.
