Coronavirus patients who don’t have any symptoms aren’t driving the spread of the virus, World Health Organization officials said Monday, casting doubt on concerns by some researchers that the virus could be difficult to contain due to asymptomatic infections.

“From the data we have, it still seems to be rare that an asymptomatic person actually transmits onward to a secondary individual,” Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, head of WHO’s emerging diseases and zoonosis unit, said at a news briefing from the United Nations agency’s Geneva headquarters. “It’s very rare.”

“We have a number of reports from countries who are doing very detailed contact tracing,” she said. “They’re following asymptomatic cases. They’re following contacts. And they’re not finding secondary transmission onward. It’s very rare.”
If asymptomatic spread proves to not be a main driver of coronavirus transmission, the policy implications could be tremendous. A report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published on April 1 cited the “potential for presymptomatic transmission” as a reason for the importance of social distancing
That was darn funny
wouldn’t it be nice to have a politically independent source of medical information...
like a world health organization but without the allegiance to an idealogy
The contact tracers only consider it a contact if the person was exposed to someone with the virus from two feet or closedr and for 10 minutes or longer.
So that means almost zero chance of transfer from casual encounters in stores, etc.
Time to stop mask mania, make it optional for those like store workers who want them, everyone will do social distancing on their own.
I don’t disagree in the least.
Now that the revolution is in swing its time for the health orgs to move on from Covid and do the CYA they need to insist “we’ve only followed the science.”
this has been obvious all along, by scientific understanding of what it takes to pass the virus - viral load + direct contact + actions that expel the virus (cough/sneeze) contact over some period of time. Then maybe an asymptomatic person might wind up being the virus contact to someone else - might. But passing by on the street - no.
The mask - walking into a business, maybe, passing by on the sidewalk, no, unless YOU know YOU are sick or YOU are vulnerable.

So why are we doing all this?
“There is no reason to believe anything the WHO says, one way or the other. They were the ones who downplayed the threat at the behest of China to begin with.”
I was about that say that is good news then I saw the name WHO..
So all the reports of Cuomo sending recovering COVID positive patients into Nursing Homes and killing thousands of elderly was just hyperbole?
You got it. Masks = control. We are being trained for future herding.
The Democrats want to destroy the economy to beat Trump in November. That is why we are doing all this.
So all the reports of Cuomo sending recovering COVID positive patients into Nursing Homes and killing thousands of elderly was just hyperbole?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No. The ones Cuomo sent were symptomatic or they would have just been quarantined somewhere.
Has anyone ever photographed WHO’s decision wheel?
“Asymptomatic coronavirus patients arent spreading new infections, WHO says”
which would if true (but who really knows?) help lend validity of contact tracing of symptomatic folks ...
German Government Report Blasts Shutdowns
The dangerousness of Covid-19 was overestimated: probably at no point did the danger posed by the new virus go beyond the normal level.
The people who die from Corona are essentially those who would statistically die this year, because they have reached the end of their lives and their weakened bodies can no longer cope with any random everyday stress (including the approximately 150 viruses currently in circulation).
Worldwide, within a quarter of a year, there has been no more than 250,000 deaths from Covid-19, compared to 1.5 million deaths [25,100 in Germany] during the influenza wave 2017/18.
The danger is obviously no greater than that of many other viruses. There is no evidence that this was more than a false alarm.
Suspect that they have known this from the beginning. But that may one of the few things they have finally told the truth about.
The experts are bought. Period.
I'm still waiting for the big surge from Spring Break. We also just hit the 14 day incubation period from Memorial Day. Where is the big surge from all those folks being out and about?
Yet, millions are still out of work by lock down.
