“WTF! No facts on Electric planes.”

How about you look at the FUEL CAPACITY of the C-208 on that page and do a bit of math, if you can.

Sure, if you want FACTS, I can give you that also...and we’ll see how much fuel a C-208 requires to fly 100 miles plus reserves. But I’ll be nice and not do it.

There is an extension cord 200 miles long to recharge the batteries in flight, but it keeps getting tangled with ground clutter....

A distinct improvement would be a parachute mounted on the top of the plane, to be deployed when the batteries were almost fully drained, to float the plane down to a somewhat softened landing.

A good landing is when you walk away after the plane gets on the ground. A great landing is when the plane can be used again.

How about you do the math and post it instead of talking in circles!

Uh, two tons is still 4000 lbs in Texas, right? A full load of fuel in the Caravan is roughly 1900 lbs. Like the man said, how far can you go on 1900 lbs (335 gallons) of fuel vs two tons of batteries? About 1000 nm vs 100nm.

Thanks, I think he needed help with the math.

Now, if you put 2 tons of fuel in a Caravan, you can pretty much double that 1000 nautical mile range.

Point being that, while electric cars with Lithium Ions might be practical - airplanes are still in the ‘lead acid’ days, without a doubt!

Not every flight is 1000 nm!

Same glide ratio as turbine Caravan.

Seems to come from the article. But hey, we are all guilty of not reading the article at times...

“Actually, the batteries weigh the same as the weight of the jet fuel no longer required.”

And unlike the jet fuel which is burned off, the whole weight of the batteries is there from start to finish.
So ends my extremely limited knowledge of the subject.

Thanks, the Seattle Times article has the following:

“The flight does not herald the near-term introduction of all-electric, passenger-carrying Cessnas. The cabin of the plane was obstructed by two tons of lithium-ion batteries and cooling equipment, with little room for passengers. It certainly wasn’t a cabin setup that would make any sense commercial”

Not from OP article. This plane is a test plane.
