Dear XXXX,
We live in an unjust world. And too many of us have been lulled into complacency by the illusion of progress toward a more just society. The events of the last few weeks and months have shown that the black community and, by extension, all communities of color continue to face obstacles steeped in centuries of racism and violence--- obstacles that threaten their physical safety, mental health, and capacity to live freely.
For those of us in the water polo community, recent events should further strengthen our dedication to diversity and inclusion. The pandemic provides time for reflection. And when we are free to compete again in the sport we love, we will redouble our efforts to welcome each other and all who wish to join our sport with mutual respect and appreciation.
The tragic murder of George Floyd and countless others at the hands of police brutality is a wakeup call. We live in an unjust world. It is up to us to point our light toward social justice and equal opportunity. We must work to protect those least able to protect themselves. We must reach across the time and space of social distancing and find in one another what President Lincoln, in his first inaugural address, called "the better angels of our nature."
The time of the silent majority is over. We must speak out against injustice. We must hold one another accountable. While no person can do everything, every person can do something. Let us stand together.
Christopher Ramsey Chief Executive Officer USA Water Polo, Inc.
In light of current events and with respect to the more important conversations that are taking place at this time, we have postponed all #AtHomeUSAWP content until next week.
Yup. Sometimes things suck. Other times, not so much. They should stick to water polo. A word of “wisdom”. Nobody promised you a rose garden.
Cool. So you are going to let play non swimmers, short people and fat people on your team?
“For those of us in the water polo community, recent events should further strengthen our dedication to diversity and inclusion.”
I’m going to withhold my opinion until I hear what the US Curling Team and National Speleological Society have spoken.
I get Facebook updates from USA Handball (a cool sport by the way) and they did the same virtue signaling too.
>>>We live in an unjust world<<<
I wonder what they would suggest to make this a just world?
I assume it would involve Concentration Camps and midnight raids on people’s homes by Armed Government Agents.
WTF has this got to do with water polo? I guess it’s to cover their ass for liability reasons.
I used to play a lot. We won the Chicago 18 and tournament one year. It was fun. But now it seems that the executive head of some association feels compelled to issue this tripe. So sad, what total losers.
LOL!!! WTF CARES what the WATER polo Asso THINKS!
Hey Chris, Who the F do you think you are that ANYONE cares what US Water Polo thinks? Get over yourself and get a life!
More corporate cowardice: If any organization doesn’t post a statement like this then they will be labeled racist and insensitive. Silence = Bigotry.
“...We live in an unjust world...”
I found that out the moment Hillary Clinton was not thrown in jail for Benghazi, illegal email server, 900 missing raw FBI files, Vince Foster murder etc.
There is a law for us peasants and another one for democrats.
Water polo??? Seriously? Thats great!!!!!
“We must reach across the time and space of social distancing and find in one another what President Lincoln, in his first inaugural address, called “the better angels of our nature.”
Lincoln’s first inaugural address, in which he defended slavery where it existed, would not have been my first choice for a social reference on this water polo issue.
Oh, both my kids were swimmer/water polo players.
Finally! Ive been on pins and needles awaiting a statement on social justice from US Water Polo. I can breathe easy now.
The National Speleological Society is writing theirs on the cave walls. 8>)
I have been waiting anxiously for this important statement. I feel so much better now. We need so many more groups to virtue signal.
In other news, the USA Water Polo Team drowned four horses while testing their new horse scuba gear.
