A Eugene man was charged with reckless burning and criminal mischief after throwing a lighted firework at a person in a Eugene U-Haul parking lot, setting fire to a man stealing gas and to several trucks.
Dylan Hannah, 28, was arraigned Monday in Lane County Court on charges of second-degree criminal mischief and reckless burning.
Eugene police responded to a 5:45 a.m. Sunday report of several trucks on fire at U-Haul Storage of Santa Clara, 150 Oroyan Ave.
After investigating, police learned that Hannah, sitting inside his vehicle, and a woman in her 30s, standing near the vehicle, appeared to be in an argument near the doors of the U-Haul building. Hannah allegedly threw a lighted firework toward the woman as she ran for cover, Melinda McLaughlin, Eugene police spokeswoman, said in a news release.
When the firework exploded, burning pieces went under a U-Haul truck, right at an unsuspecting man who was between trucks stealing gas. The gas ignited and set as many as four vehicles on fire as well as the man siphoning the gas.
The suspected gas thief was seen running from the scene on fire toward River Road, police said. He has not been found by police and is likely recovering from injuries, police said.
Officers located Hannah at his residence, finding a second firework.
Police said they dont have many reports of gas siphoning, in part because that type of theft is difficult in modern cars.

He should be forced to pay back the damages to the trucks. If not, he should be sued even if it costs more to sue than its worth, as jackals like this yoyo needs to understand the PAIN of his stupidity.

= = =
You don’t siphon.
Put your container below the plastic gas tank.
Punch a hole in the tank.
Fill up the container.
Depart with your container.
Let the rest of the gas drain out.
Leave the hole in the tank.
Easier than siphoning.
