What are they wrapping him in?
I remember this guy from way back in Miami
Over the top but an artist,
RIP Cristo
I remember his “umbrellas” on the landscape in the early 1990’s in California.
The landscape looked better in it’s natural state.
Plus, one of those umbrellas fell on a woman and killed her.
I once drove up I-5 from LA to see their display of large umbrellas. I enjoyed it, and wish I could have seen some of their other displays.
I remember him. An international Kook, who somehow got permission and financing for his ‘fabric sculptures’.
We don’t have many characters today approaching this level of being original. Elon Musk is someone who comes close.
He doesnt insult my sensibilities like some artists. RIP.
Wow! I met him back in 1971, he stayed at my college dorm.
“reams of cloth”
smh
In college I had to take an art class. The professor was talking about this guy and I said Something like this is just weird, And I dont get it. The professor said, Its art! To which most of the class dutifully shook their heads and agreed.
Sorry, no, its weird.
We walked thru Central Park and ended up meeting him an his wife. Very interesting.
His art was something that only a modern, industrialized society could realize. Part of art and what makes an object a piece of art is the chutzpah to do it. It was art if only to prove and show such things could be done.
RIP.
I saw his Rifle Gap Curtain before the winds ripped it apart.
Yeah, I don’t know how we will ever get along with out him.
