Authorities use Krispy Kreme Doughnuts to Capture Bear
WLSAM ^ | May 28, 2020

Apparently, cops don’t love doughnuts just because they taste good; but also because they make effective tools in protecting the public.

For proof of this, look no further than Fort Myers, Florida. That’s where animal control officers saved helpless citizens from a menacing bear with nothing more than a box of Krispy Kremes. After a young 250-pound bear was spotted wandering through the streets of Fort Myers Tuesday morning, officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were called out to tranquilize it, says Officer Adam Brown. However, because tranquilizers usually don’t take effect right away, they felt using the gun wasn’t their best option. “When we use a tranquilizer, the bear sometimes will run away, and we didn’t want to take any chance of it running into traffic or the residential area,” Brown says.

So officers decided to go with their secret weapon: Krispy Kreme doughnuts. After putting a dozen in a trap, it took only moments for the bear to take the bait, Brown says. The bear was then loaded into a vehicle and taken to a state-managed wildlife area, according to Brown. Not that the bear cared; it was too busy chowing down on Krispy Kremes.

Call the Bradenton PD for backup. There’s a Shipley Donut place there.

...MUCH more effective than Krispy Kremes

You’re right about Dunkin’ Donuts. I pretty much won’t go to a donut place any more if they don’t make the things right there.

“Krispy Kremes are sooooooooo overrated.”

I agree. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll definitely eat them - but they taste great because they are loaded to the gills with oil. Dunkin Donuts is WAY better (and so is their coffee); even Shipleys is better.

That bear isn’t too discriminating...maybe it is a pig in a bear costume?

StarSchmucks coffee tastes like burnt, stale MaxSwell House that only posturing hipsters could like.

There, fixed it for you.

I haven’t been to Fort Myers in a long time. They didn’t have a Krispy Kreme then. All they had were nasty Duncan Donuts.

Looks like the real deal. Unfortunately, even though I sometimes fly into Bradley, I never have a reason to go into Springfield.

That always works for me; give me a Krispy Kreme and I’ll follow you anywhere! (Since I’ve lived in this county, I don’t get Krispy Kremes very often, as they don’t have them here, so I always look forward to getting them elsewhere.) YUM!

No reason to go to Springfield? LOL.....*The Armpit of Western Mass?

How dare you? LOL

[We used to swing off I-91 to W.Sring., on our way north to VT or NH, and make it a point to load up on carbs.]

We’ve gone through phases.....looking for the *Best* burger; *Best* ice cream, *Best* donut, *Best* lobster roll ....yada; so that’s how I *know* these things. :)

Growing up in Connecticut, we only went to Massachusetts for Riverside Park in Agawam, about 5 miles north of the border. We had contempt for the Kennedy liberals in those days, as Connecticut was a northeast Republican state in those days, and the Democrats tended to be Irish and Italian ethnics who didn't hate their country.

Springfield also has the Basketball Hall of Fame, of course. I also had my Amtrak from Chicago rerouted through Springfield. For best burger, have you tried any of the steamed cheeseburgers in Connecticut? Or Pralines in Meriden for ice cream? Or a grilled foot long on a toasted square (clam rol) bun? CT is gone, but still some good eating there.
