The most striking feature about the impact of Covid-19 on children is how little research has been conducted in the field. Only a handful of studies have been carried out across the world, and scientists are divided over their interpretation.
As a result, politicians are now being asked to decide if they should open schools in order to protect childrens mental health and education without any clear scientific guidance about the risks of triggering a second wave of Covid-19 and infecting school staff in the process.
It is known that children are less likely to become ill if infected with the coronavirus but researchers are still unsure how easily they can infect others. Some research indicates that children are far less likely to become infected compared with adults but other studies suggest that when they do become infected, they carry as much viral load as an adult, and therefore pose a real risk of passing the virus on to others.
The situation was summed up by a senior Labour frontbencher last week: Either you put the education of children at risk by keeping schools closed, or you take a risk with their safety. There is no easy answer. The problem is that if we say to parents they must send their children back to school, and there is one awful case involving a teacher or a pupil who contracts Covid-19, then it is all over the media.

Or lack thereof
What's the consensus?
All they have to do is take a survey or do whatever they do when they determine there's a consensus on climate science.
Sheesh. Do I have to think of EVERYthing?
Scientist aren’t divided. Ask the ones who want to shut down the world who they’re going to vote for.
How can we believe in Science! if Scientists! don’t agree? O noes! O noes!
As soon as they reference “scientists” you can bet they are not scientists and that a clown show is soon to follow.
This is about as basic as it gets.
OF COURSE children can pass CV-19 to others (like, their parents, grandparents, cousins, other children, etc).
The only ones who are pushing the “kids aren’t contagious..they really, REALLY aren’t” are the people pushing to open the economy back up pronto. Because, if the kids are home (to keep them from becoming infected at schools, which are basically a living petri dish of infection), parents can’t go back to work - at least not that easily.
I’ve yet to see a single credible scientific analysis from anyone that “proves” kids are not contagious. OF COURSE they are contagious. Just like they are with the flu, colds, and every other thing they come down with at school or elsewhere.
I agree! I don’t even call myself a scientist, even though I am one. :)
I have seen some articles that suggest that people that are asymptomatic (and which children might tend to be) do not transmit it as much. It could be as simple as they don’t cough and spew out so much.
And there’s also this article:
https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/children-unlikely-to-transmit-coronavirus-says-study-cited-in-pms-push-to-reopen-schools/ar-BB13d37r
This type of unscientific BS will be coming at us nonstop until November. And we’ll have some FReepers gladly lapping it up, and pushing it as fact here on FR.
The left destroys everything it touches. Science is now dead.
Scientists divided” dont know science any better than Supreme Court divided knows the Constitution imo.
Let’s “listen to the scientists.”
Wait! You don’t say. They DON’T agree?
That’s impossible. Everybody knows the science is settled.
Sorry about the 85 sick kids....but that’s no reason to shut down the country.
As Feynman said, “Science is the belief in the ignorance of the experts.”
Covid is probably number 25 on the list of most dangerous things to children in public school.
SMH. Morons morons everywhere.
Be a conservative. Homeschool.
IMO, the most striking feature has been the industrial strength dumbassery from 'experts' and 'journalists.'
It's been an issue for what, 2-3 months? How much research would have happened?
