In her first interview since McCoy passed on April 12, the former Real Housewives Of Orange County star explained that she delivered at home amid fears about the coronavirus epidemic, but suffered a rare complication when her 11lbs4 son got stuck in the birth canal. Reasons like this is why you give birth in a hospital.

Under normal circumstances she would have gone to the hospital, but she didn’t because of the virus situation in hospitals.

I feel sorry for her and the baby, but I’m amazed that she chose to do this at home.

“11lbs4”

Should that birth have been cesarean?

11 pounds 4 ounces.

Goodness.

Sorry for the child and the family. Tough times.

Sad she wasn’t more strongly advised to give birth in a hospital.

A damn good argument for opening back up before anyone else dies needlessly.

Another casualty of the Coronavirus panic. Very sad.

Of course, no one is counting or publishing the number of people who have died because they delayed or forwent medical treatment due to the lockdown or fear.

Hospitals have on gyms and the NICU right there. That is the only way to have a baby. If one can fend off the docs, the anesthesiologists, the pediatricians, a tall order, one can have a baby and walk out of there in 24 hours.

It’s sad she was afraid to seek care at the hospital. She’ll have this on her conscience the rest of her life. My niece supervises a lab at a Rochester, NY hospital, and she said a week or so ago that they’ve had Leukemia patients who were afraid to come to the hospital for fear of getting the virus, to the point where two out of five of them ended up dying because they waited too long to seek help. I blame the media for scaring people into being afraid to go to the hospital.

In this country about 98% of births are uneventful. It’s the 2% that aren’t that make it wise to be in a hospital with a skilled OB/GYN handling the instruments.

The women who try at home birth are usually the exact profile that SHOULD NOT!

Almost lost my grand nephew to this ill advised "cost saving" measure.....

Ultrasound would have shown the large size of baby.

It was malpractice to attempt a home delivery.

Having delivered three children myself I cannot imagine what possessed her to attempt delivery of an 11 lb. + baby at home, with just a midwife yet.

I am convinced most people have taken leave of their common sense and critical thinking skills.

What a heartbreaking story. Some people are just terrified about the virus. They are organizing their lives around fear. It is beyond reason.

It’s a dangerous virus. But vs the risk of losing mother and baby to delivery complications - something that occurs even with the full panoply of hospital staff, equipment and supplies at the ready? In her defense, pregnancy does involve hormonal surges that impair good judgment.

Good God. That are scaring people away from hospitals. Risk is very low for getting the virus having a baby in the hospital. I bet even at the worst time in nyc.

This is the daughter of former Oakland A’s pitcher, Matt Keough, who died just last week, and the granddaughter of Red Sox outfielder Marty Keough.
