Best Electric Razor?
5/10/20 | self

Posted on 05/09/2020 10:28:03 PM PDT by justme4now

I have arrived at the age where the eyes and hands don't fully cooperate like they use to! (Doesn't help that I am blind in one eye either)

Well anyway, I am wanting, (needing) to give up the standard razor and move to an electric.

I've had electrics in the past (norelco, panasonic ..) but none of them worked very well!

Reading up on the topic, I'd say that the 'rotating head' rather than the foil head would be preferable.

I would like some recommendations from any long time users if you don't mind?

Not having a lot of money I'd like to stay away from those that go above $50.00-$75.00 if at all possible.

Seriously, I see where Braun has a new razor out for almost $300.00!

It 'looks' great but Really!?

Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Water resistant would be a great feature.

Thanks

Long ago tried a Norelco and found I didn’t like it at all. So have been using a razor since but lately I’ve considered trying the solo micro touch razor I’ve seen on TV.
It is about $20 so the investment doesn’t seem bad if I don’t like it. FWIW.

I used a Remington, one day the screen got a ding, not realizing it I shaved my usual way by walking around getting things ready to roll. Okay... so I finish up the shave, go back to the bath, look in the mirror and I had these scratches all over my face from the ding on the screen.

A new screen was easy enuff back when malls had Remington stores, but now I dunno.

But... I did prefer the Remington over the Norelco.

I do have a trimming kit now, and rarely shave with a razor.

I still use a double edge saftey razor. Ive shaved in the shower for 30+ years now without a mirror. Close your eyes and let the force guide you.

One of the only brands that didnt rip my face off when I was trying them out was a Braun.

Believe it or not but Panasonic makes a budget priced electric that is cordless. It works reasonably well.

My parents bought me a Philishave 555 three head electric razor when I was a teenager.
I replaced the heads at the half way point between then and now. I did not notice an improvement in the shave.

I bought foil shave type, cause the guy on TV said the shave was soooo good, he bought the company. POC plastic broke and the shaver was toast.

The Philips gave the better shave

I use a Remington MB 4040. Holds charge forever. Only use every couple of weeks. Retired and lazy. Once in a blue moon do a real shave with Gillette Mach 3 Turbo. Still can’t beat an old school straight edge shave by a master barber..if you can find one.

I have a Remington. Heard Wahl is good and Amazon’s choice for the best is Yoholo. Never heard of that one.

I always seemed to get the best shave from the foil heads(like Remington) but was always buying new foils that were not cheap. So I switched back to rotating heads. It takes a little more time & effort to get a good shave, but then I don’t miss the extreme expense of new foils or the little cuts when the foils starts going bad. If I remember right, you had to buy the foils WITH cutter thereby increasing the price.

Yes, Norelco rotary. Tried them all, had many Braun’s. Remington’s.

Norelco is slow, but closest & smoothest shave by far. And most comfortable.....

Take your time, slow down......

[Phillips] Norelco. I had used that brand with a corded and cordless models back in 70s and 80s.

I switched to the Remington triple-head in the 90s. First one lasted 3 years. Second 5 years — after I replaced the rechargeable battery. Third one was so cheaply made that the rotor pulled the beard hairs and would bog down instead of cutting them. I switched back to Norelco about 3 years ago.

“...a disposable in the shower. Do it by feel, no beard to trim or such.”

Exactly. Add a little lounging under the hot water to soften the stubble...and it’s wham, bam, thank you ma’am.

[Darn. Been stuck inside too long. Now I’m discussing my showering habits with another man. Just promise you’ll respect me in the morning.]

I have a Braun Series 5 and I use Afta pre shave lotion by Mennen. It’s a smooth, close shave.

And the razor is made in Germany, not China.

Same here. I’ve had 2 norelcos and used one until it stopped! The second one is still working. Going on about 40 years of using them. Never changed anything. Just used them.

I’m sure the new ones have to be better than 20+ year old one I have now. But then again nothing lasts very long any more.
Good luck and don’t forget the first week or so you will get razor burn. I remember the instructions said you will get it even if you currently are using one.
