A Southwest Airlines jetliner hit and killed someone as it landed at Austin's main airport Thursday night, authorities said.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the pilot of Flight 1392 reported seeing a person on the runway shortly after the Boeing 737 touched down at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport at 8:12 p.m. local time.
The carrier said the pilot maneuvered to try to avoid the person, whose identify wasn't immediately released.
The driver of an airport operations vehicle subsequently reported finding the person on the runway. Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services said its personnel pronounced the person, an adult, dead at the scene.

Judging from the damage to the cowling Im surprised theres much of him left.Yes I agree. Even a simple bird strike leaves a bloody mess.
Unless the maintenance people already rinsed off the blood and gore there should have been plenty based on the impact mark on the lip of the cowling.

I’ve always made it a point to avoid active airport runways...getting hit by a 787 can ruin your whole day!

You betcha! They'll sue the airport operator, the airport's owner, the company that made the fences that block off the runways, they’ll blame Boeing, and they'll blame Ford Motor Company, the maker of the ambulance that responded to the accident.

Better during landing than take-off.

Back in 1987 a hunter fired a round from a .30-30 Winchester model 74 and it penetrated the hull of a United Airlines flight as it was landing in Raleigh, NC.
A bullet pierced the aircraft's belly, ricocheted through the plane, a Boeing 737, and struck a thirty year old passagger, a passenger from Brooklyn. The bullet passed through the passengers thigh and lodged in his cheek.
Not sure how they located the hunter, but they did.

A small railroad in Connecticut took over an abandoned line, some idiots said their kids play on the row, but the rails are in place out of service, not abandoned. Parents, tell your kids NOT TO PLAY on railroads right of way... (unless, you are trying to Arkancide people, then kill them in another area and throw them on the rails...

The only question is, was he wearing a Facemask?
Not sure how much would be left of the guy. Roadkill is one thing, Runwaykill is a whole different ballgame.

Sue the plane's manufacturer... Planes need safety devices to prevent a senseless tragedy in a situation like that...
Basically we need assault-plane laws and regulations...

Houston always has a handful of pedestrians killed every year while trying to cross freeways, usually Hispanic. Wonder if pedestrians killed crossing runways fall into a similar pattern.
