Corona Virus Daily Thread #51 COVID-19 5/07/2020
Not sure I agree with all in the above quote from Gertz but I wanted to see what the FR experts had to say about it.
In fact, my current belief is that encouraging a so-called herd immunity not linked to a vaccine is a rather inhumane way of treating a disease. That was one of the first things Pence said, perhaps in the first briefing, that the older people are not going to be sacrificed in this effort, as Sweden has done (he didn’t say it quite that way).
I don’t like wearing a mask inside stores and other indoor public places, but will do so, not to prevent me from catching it — LET’S GET THIS OVER WITH ALREADY!!! — but to hopefully attenuate my viral load in my own exhalations, in case I actually have already caught it (asymptomatic or mild).
I think the slow burn method, combined with massive use of anticoagulants, anti-inflammatories and HCQ/Z-pac/Zinc, etc. whenever appropriate, in addition to ramped up hospital capacity for both COVID and the “elective” procedures, is the least bad option. Said slow burn would be achieved by slowly re-opening the economy between now and Labor Day. I would have started the process on May 1.
There ARE no good options with this thing; only a variety of lousy ones.
Hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin plus zinc vs hydroxychloroquine and
azithromycin alone: outcomes in hospitalized COVID-19 patients

Interesting info....thanks.
The ChiComs aren’t going to lift a finger to help us, or any other country, in finding an origin based therapy/treatment.
Interesting that these docs (I imagine one of them is Ronnie Jackson) didn’t expand on the herd immunity aspect....pros/cons.
I’m not on FB, so I can’t look for the post....but...I would like to see/order that mask!
From your medrxiv link....
40-word summary: Zinc sulfate added to hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin may improve outcomes among hospitalized patients.
+++
Conclusion: This study provides the first in vivo evidence that zinc sulfate in combination with hydroxychloroquine may play a role in therapeutic management for COVID-19.

Wow....no kidding, folks!! That’s what we’ve ALL been screaming, at the top of our lungs, over all of these purported NY, etc., *studies*....that, OBVIOUSLY did NOT include Zinc. Some of the trials/studies didn’t even include the Z-pack.
Glad someone at least put a paper out, on this. Maybe if it’s in B&W they’ll eventually get the hint.
Maybe you can order them through the Navy store.

” The test will test a sample of each donors blood to see if it contains COVID-19 antibodies.
This will be offered to TBC blood donors at all blood donation centers and mobiles across South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia, at no cost. “
Interesting. Mostly ‘professional’ blood donors I assume.
Following a 2.5-hour choir practice attended by 61 persons, including a symptomatic index patient, 32 confirmed and 20 probable secondary COVID-19 cases occurred (attack rate = 53.3% to 86.7%); three patients were hospitalized, and two died. Transmission was likely facilitated by close proximity (within 6 feet) during practice and augmented by the act of singing.

Maine’s reopening plan.
14 day quarantine! But, at least rural areas see some relief soon.
At this point, Pelosi’s latest leftwing contribution to Stimulus No. 4 is so lousy, that I sadly don’t think we can re-open as gradually as I would prefer. Government on the fed level is screwing this up so badly, that I would prefer all restaurants, bars and “non-essential” businesses open up to 50% capacity, with a regulation of 50% capacity on ESSENTIAL businesses* (excepting medical, trucking and other things outside of the usual brick-and-mortar, going shopping types of course). As things move along, and we better our capacity and medical responses to this bastard, we can allow more occupancy of the businesses.
We simply cannot go on like this, the Federal government, in one of its most essential needed moments in American history, has screwed this thing up mightily and effectively rendered itself irrelevant — Trump can only do so much, and people need to feed their families and get off the black market.
*Wal-Mart currently exceeds this notion, with a loose company regulation allowing roughly 20% of capacity within its stores, so we can leave them alone.
