Has anything (study or studies) come out that analyzes likely COVID-19 (or similar diseases) severity vs. viral load / amount of exposure? That is, for example, in settings where heavy exposure might be more likely, are cases tending to be more severe after other risk factors are accounted for?

Obviously, each person has a “threshold” above which they get infected and can be a spreader. But, do increasingly heavy exposures tend to lead to increasingly severe cases?

I think NYC would be an example of that?

Brushing past someone in the produce section of Trader Joe’s in LA and then going to the beach for an ample dose of D3 is WAY different than sitting on a metro north train for 30m next to an infectious person.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/sweden-has-avoided-a-coronavirus-lockdown-its-economy-is-hurting-anyway-11588870062

“The lesson of Sweden, which has almost no coronavirus restrictions, could be that the pandemic will wreck economies whether they have lockdowns or not. Swedish GDP is projected to drop by 7%, in line with countries that have lockdowns”

Shockingly enough, people at risk ARE staying home.

Even WITH an ‘open economy’.

As it turns out, the over 40’s who are at risk are ALSO your big earners. When THEY stay home (because they are at risk), the economy suffers.

Shocker.

https://www.wthr.com/article/indiana-coronavirus-updates-gov-update-reopening-pence-staffer-tests-positive-covid-19

ISDH Update
Indiana has received a shipment of Remdesivir from the federal government. ISDH said the medication has been shown to shorten the length of the virus.

The state has analyzed more than 22,000 cases of COVID-19. About 27 percent of those needed a visit to the Emergency Room and 19 percent had to be hospitalized. Of the 4,389 that were hospitalized, 23 percent went into the ICU.

Around 70 percent of those hospitalized have been discharged, 14 percent are likely still hospitalized and 16 percent of the patients died.

I have a quick garden question for those who live in colder climates... temps in my area in GA are supposed to get down around 37 at night for the next few nights. I’ve never had to deal with these low temps in May! Do I need to cover anything? I figure tomatoes at least, but beans? Cukes? Zucchini?

9 out of 10 times around here; it never gets quite as cold as predicted, but it’s that TENTH time that ruins everything. I learned my lesson.

MedCram - Medical Lectures Explained CLEARLY I still think Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor is the crux in this disease doctor after researching more into your hypothesis. VEGF is shown in high levels in kawasaki disease and in COVID. Since it’s main role is angiogenesis and permeability, any elevation should, hypothetically, induce the severe symptoms noted in both diseases. VEGF is the single factor consistent in all the co-morbidities for COVID as well. Modulation of VEGF is key I believe. The cocktail I previously prescribed as an adjunct modulates VEGF while still increasing NO production. ADAMTS13, in an attempt to achieve homeostasis from elevated vWF, also elevates VEGF in a way I still don’t fully understand but am working on. Please look into this pathway. There’s a single trial already underway focusing on this exact pathway.

In a cursory search higher VEGF is seen in WUhan Flu. They are testing some anti-vegf drugs on it.

Like the kind they shoot you in the eye with

So take VEGF and research it with whatever is wrong with you
Wrapping it around to malaria...beta thalassemia major- kind with transfusions..have high VEGF in children..dont know about adults..if spleen removed even higher VEGF

Alpha thalassemia has high VEGF

they give thalidomide for transfusion people. WOW... https://medcraveonline.com/HTIJ/HTIJ-06-00191.pdf

Thalidomide was previously used to treat multiple myeloma. It has also significant role on HbF. Exact aetiology of its role is not known but it may be due to suppression of NF–KB induction caused by certain inflammatory cytokines including tumor necrotic factor–α (TNF–α), prostaglandin E2 synthesis (PG–E2), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), in association with increase in release of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Reactive oxygen species launches P38 MAPK, which causes increase in HbF levels.7, 8

--------------------------

Cytokines play fundamental parts in dys-regulation of the apoptosis of endothelial. The endothelin-1 (ET-1) and VEGF are produced and secreted from a wide spectrum of inflamed cells during vascular insult or hypoxia and are defined as multifunctional growth factors
