New Mexico governor orders roads closed to city of Gallup in effort to stop coronavirus spread

New Mexico Gov. Lujan Grisham invoked the state’s Riot Control Act to slow the spread of coronavirus and sealed off the roads into and out of the hard-hit city of Gallup, she announced Friday.

To help control a surging outbreak in the city, the Democratic governor locked down the city at the request of Gallup’s mayor, Grisham said in a news release.

...Beginning noon Friday, all roads into the city were shut down and businesses were required to close from 5 p.m. until 8 a.m. in the city of 70,000. Additionally, only two people are allowed in a vehicle at the same time.

...The governor said residents should shelter in place “unless absolutely necessary for health or safety or a medical emergency.”

Anyone who fails to comply with the restrictions will be found guilty of a misdemeanor, or a fourth-degree felony if they are found to be breaking the rules more than once.

CHINA - Harbin

BEIJING/SHANGHAI (Reuters) – A northeastern Chinese city of 10 million people struggling with currently the country’s biggest coronavirus cluster shut dine-in services on Saturday, as the rest of China eases restrictions designed to hamper the spread of the disease.

Harbin, the provincial capital of Heilongjiang and its biggest city, said it temporarily suspended dine-in services for all eateries, reported the official CCTV citing an emergency epidemic prevention notice.

Catering services operating in the city, such as barbecue eateries and those selling skewers, shabu shabu, and stew, shall suspend dine-in meals until further notice and in accordance with changes in the epidemic situation, the notice said.

MOROCCO

Weary Moroccan medics fight virus, nightmares and tears

Two Moroccan doctors have died after becoming infected, officials have said. Morocco, which is under a strict lockdown, currently has more than 4,500 confirmed cases and some 170 deaths, according to a Johns Hopkins University count.

Since early March, the Moroccan government has steadily introduced virus control measures that have gradually turned vibrant cities into near ghost towns. Health minister Khalid Ait Boutaleb says that if it weren’t for preventive measures, Morocco would now be facing 6,000 coronavirus-related deaths.

A total debacle on testing. Blood on the hands of the CDC/FDA.

We are 43 among 50 nations on per million. Just above Belarus.

And the nursing homes, well we just forgot. Too bad. In WV we are the first to test all residents and staff in nursing homes, but even here way too late.

We can aim to vaccinate 40% plus when a vaccine is available, with Covid probably 80 % plus, but with tests now being available, we can’t ramp up?

The reason is we won’t. Medical community hates mass testing, says it isn’t necessary, but the reality is $. Why spend a few bucks on a test when Fauci can ensure friends and family can make a $ billion on a vaccine.

Everyone should be able to be tested. Everyone should be able to have an antibody test. Everyone should be able to be retested 3-4 times a year if necessary. All incoming travelers should require testing. All positives should have mandatory quarantine. The virus will be dead. Now tell me why we can’t do that when we can guarantee everyone will have bacon on their plate if they want.

The front line warriors are heroes, but the clowns at the top are evil.

“Now is not the time to lower our guard. Now is the time to evaluate if we need to do more, and to ensure we maintain precautions as America returns to work.”

I agree wholeheartedly. While I pray we have a nice long summer break, it is way to early to say we are winning. Flattening the curve is not a victory, it is just slowing things down enough to keep healthcare from being overwhelmed. Once healthcare fails, all bets are off. Maybe HCQ will mitigate this epidemic and if so, that will be a godsend!

I believe there is a better strain and a worse strain.

I also have a theory that where viral loads are the greatest, there are more severe outcomes. I don’t just mean hospitals, but grocery stores, etc. let’s say you have a hospital full of cv patients. A nurse works there who has a heavy viral load. She goes grocery shopping and exhales and a customer catches it. Maybe that is not enough for a severe case. But once you have enough infectious people in that grocery store, the load gets heavier. At some point there may be a viral load in terms of infectious population so heavy it hangs over the city with air pollution and in ground water runoff.

I’m short what I am saying, the more people that get sick in an area, the sicker they get. While in mild areas the high risk and elderly succumb because it does not take a heavy viral load to kill them. But in heavily endemic areas as well as close quarters, many of the young will have severe outcomes, die to heavy viral loads.

Just my theory.

The same people that complain the covid deaths are over counted have no problem using flu stats that are just estimates. Actual reported flu deaths are in the thousands, not tens of thousands.

The part I dont really understand is how Italy gets whacked with people from China- and that ends up on the East Coast

West Coast mildly gets whacked with someone who came from Wuhan.

Even if the claim is that they are different strains..California should have gotten some of the Italy strain.

There are states in the midwest that are getting whacked hard and dont have the subway/mass concentration of people. Like Indiana..people are spread out..but they have the Biogen Conference strain.

It can’t just be sunshine and warmer weather in California

“or lockdown or mitigation or whatever you call it doesn’t work. There is a contagious virus widespread in the community. Those who are going to get it are going to get it no matter what we do”

It does work. You guys are still in denial about this thing.

Are you out there risking infection and spreading? Or are you safely isolated? If you are on the front lines, kudos to you, but if you are stashed in your bunker whining about other people not wanting to put their lives and others at risk, you’re a hypocrite.

FluBros wrecked the 15 day plan, and are now wrecking the 30 day plan. Want a 60 day plan that actually has teeth to enforce it against the ‘but muh rights!’ weapons-grade ODD crowd? That’s where we’re gonna end up.

Nobody has the right to casual disregard for the welfare - and lives - of others. Or do you think drunk driving laws are unconstitutional? That’s a reasonably direct parallel. You might get home just fine. You might get in a wreck and just kill yourself. You might take innocents with you. You might wander into the wrong side of a super highway and cause a 100 car pileup with many deaths. It doesn’t matter - it’s a crime even if you don’t create a tragedy.

“The healthy have 99.9999999999999% chance of having no symptoms or very mild symptoms even if they get COVID.”

Clearly you were being hyperbolic, but it is ignorance like this that is the most dangerous. You do not have a right to endanger other people. Worse, you want the ability to go out and tell the people you infect, even as a symptom-free carrier, they should have stayed home.

And your solution is unworkable. You are still trying to completely rewire the US economy, which will create even more turmoil, and, yes, death, than the limp along to a restart approach.

Go look, again, at the distribution of deaths by age group. You will see that the age group of the business owners, managers, senior skilled, executives, etc., are all at substantial risk. You want to turn over the management and direction of the US economy to unskilled youth. Are you a Bernie Bro as well? That would be a disaster.

It seems like when the cases start to spike, so do the FluBro trolls on the COVID threads.

It’s all a hoax doncha know.

Same thing went on during the 1918 pandemic.

The second wave then shut them up.

Let’s hope we don’t have a second wave for everyone’s sake.
