A nanny for a mega-rich New York City family has revealed that she's been expected to follow them out to the Hamptons during the pandemic where they have sports coaches, manicurists, chefs, and personal trainers coming in and out every day. That nanny told her story to The Cut anonymously, detailing the particularly unsafe conditions she's been forced to endure. She is also hardly the only member of 'outrageously large' household staff that the family employs, and has been shuttled back and forth between Manhattan and the Hamptons in the past several weeks.

I will keep using this quote from the "Great Gatsby":
They were careless people, Tom and Daisythey smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made. . .
All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.
Good to see some people appreciate freedom.
Tom and Daisy lived in the Hamptons too...
So what? It’s their money and they can spend it as they please. If I could find someone willing to come to my house to do the manicures, you can darn well bet I would hire her in a New York minute. People need to earn money and life goes on. This is not a situation where some animals are more equal than others. This is nothing other than people acting normally while everyone else has their chicken little moment and ruins things for others.
And if they get sick, they’ll just blame it on the Orange Man.
OK, so these rich folks keep people employedlet’s not forget the fed checks they receive and maybe unemployment checksand they complain while the world crashes. Hey dummy, wear a mask and wash your hands and move on with life.
Ignoring the virus is, IMO, the partriotic thing to do. I applaud these folks.
A lot of people die in auto accidents, but I drive with impunity anyway. Life is risk. And a life lived in fear is a life half lived.
To quote Jordan Peterson, “I’m not doin’ it.” :)
But I’m not rich.
Good for them. As long as they are not being hypocrites and speaking in favor of lockdown/quarantine.
Indeed.
All animals are equal but some are more equal than others.
With Orwell, the pigs were more equal.
Today: Liberals = pigs.
How appropriate.
Perhaps they know what a fraud most of this has become.
Well said.
Everyone who works for this hypothetical family chooses to work for them.
Of course, cause they are special and rules are only meant for the little people.
And besides, if they get sick they can get the meds and treatment that WORKS, that is being denied to the rest of the hoi polloi.
Absolutely it is.
You are just too blind to see it.
WHAT?! They think they’re somehow better than us peons? Well, I never..... They probably have a good stock of HCQS on hand as well. Money doesn’t make you happy but it sure helps miserable more tolerable. :-) That’s what I hear anyway.
My daughter is a nanny for a well off professional couple. She’s proud of what she does and glad to still be employed
“unsafe conditions she’s been forced to endure”
Did her employers hold a gun to her head? I assume she is not chained to her bed at night. Maybe I am wrong. I suspect she has the option of working for someone else.
Unless, of course she is here illegally and they have her passport locked in their safe.
I already read “The Nanny Diaries”. Saw the movie too.
These people probably will not allow their children to go across the park to the Upper West Side too.
Bet you the Hamptons elite are Democrats and the stupid nanny is, too.
A. It’s not uncommon when you nanny at that level (I did it for a while)to continue working during periods where society normally retreats. My NYE “overtime bonus” made it worth not going out.
B. If you are good, you don’t need the reference from the current family. Someone is willing to snap you up if you put quiet inquiries out that you are “looking.” It boosts the egos of some families to “steal” the nanny from another family.
C. For anyone getting into this business, I recommend reading the Nanny Diaries. Yes it’s fiction but I swear they interviewed me and my nanny friends to get some of the material.
D. I noticed that she said that many workers were “foreigners” and couldn’t speak up. I wonder what type of visa they have......
